      • Some rest does wonders.

        't Seems you won (again).
I still can't understand how you can be at least 7 techs ahead and having the surplus to have fought a war.

The rest is just a mop-up operation now.

        • yeah, sorry, i was not completely honest to you about my economy. i may have been running at 50% most of the time, but being creative i had dirt cheap libraries. and i have been heavy on commerce in at least 3 cities. and two other cities were units only (along with the poprushing when you came)...

with a bunch of scientists (sometimes starving a city) i had a really decent research pace.

as for the 7 techs ahead of you: i got about 5 or 6 from trading early on where you only got about 3 techs. and then monarchy from you.
i also got machinery from the oracle (the most expensive tech on the way to optics). i extorted 1 tech from wang kon and also loads of money from him.

basically the turns since our peace were:
          1) start compass
          2) few turns of feudalism when we traded monarchy
          3) finish compass
          4) optics
          5) finish feudalism.

the nr. 2 was because i was sure to win the race to the new world. but then i remembered i had to also discover the place to get the most juicy spots.

anyhow, a trireme that had killed a barbarian galley, getting 3 XPs was upgraded the turn i got optics and it set sail eastwards. with navigation I promotion. that helped me cover the distance in such a short time. stupid me, i should have delayed the circumnavigation so you couldn't see how far i was

          • oh well... do you wanna continue?
or shall we start something else?

i'm willing to go up a difficulty level over you if you want. just as long as you don't rush me with your starting advantages

            cheerio

Do you have such a lack of quick/reliable players around?

On continuing, not much sense for me (or even the AI). You can rush all over to Astronomy now and quick-colonize all the juicy spots over there, especially if you have a Great Scientist or so underway to help you further on. Also, you sounded anxious to test Blakes improved AI on a PBEM, didn't you? Since I'm about to start another PBEM with this AI against someone else, I can as well try this with you as well on another game.

              • yep, don't know anybody else with your dedication and in a similar time zone (andydog used to play, aqualung is great but far away)

blake's AI game sounds cool. did you mean i join you two or you have a 2nd game against me?

either way, do you wanna set it up or shall i? are you waiting for a new release? i guess one can replace the DLL file on the run.

noble level sounds best i guess as blake's seems to perform 2 levels better now (last time i tried was quite some time ago).

                    • Well, your choice. If you think of joining us, it's a Chinese Unification scenario pbem, with Blakes AI included. Just heard from the other guy (Maniac) he intended it for several players, so once he comes around creating a thread you could subscribe if interested.

In any case, if you prefer a pbem with a single opponent, I think I'm willing. (perhaps, for using Blake's AI, we need to create a "mod" so to speak if customassets doesn't apply to multiplayer games)

                      • i'll join in if i don't miss the thread
would be cool if you could notify me when it is started and possibly reserve a slot for me

as for single opponent: i like 1on1s because they are closer to SP and less politics are involved. i don't know how many games i have won/lost due to politics. european classic is the best example: in the long run you were outpacing all of us and a war on my own would not have worked. had to get g_storrow up to speed (gifting countless techs for just a few) and coordinate.
it was actually not that enjoyable because it was a joint victory. i would not have been able to do it without him...

but i'm up for both types. in fact, i need for warlords games, the civ4 ones are mostly coming to an end/standstill.

and yes, a mod would be necessary. but not a problem at all i think... we just need to install the same binaries

                        • Okay, I make it so then. I notify Maniac of your interest. Any civ in the scenario you like? I must warn you that Maniac already took the Wei (purple) civ, and I'm thinking of taking one of the outer ones.

                              • The Chinese Unification mod, or the Ghengis Khan mod?

Wait one, have you ever tried to open the Chinese cannonnier (sp?) in the nif viewer? 't Could be that this unit is the issue. In my game it only appears as a red blob.
