but to answer your question from earlier: my capital has a cow (3h), copper (5h) and ivory (3h) within its radius. downside: the closest decent 2nd-city location is 7 tiles away... had we been on the same continent i could not have moves so far out so soon due to counterattacks.

I somehow got the feeling you're too late finishing the GL. At least if you plan on paying me a visit sooner then later.
I can't even settle a good spot with more then 2 resources. There's one spot with 3 within radius, but that is in otherwise marginal land.
I got a wide-spread kingdom here, and still room to settle. Should hurry before Hanni sends another galley over...

There's a mediterranean-alike sea between our starting positions, and he has used the "Gibraltar" strait to cross to my part of the continent. Our borders are established on the land end, but not yet on the "strait" end.
What I mean by too late finishing the GL, you have to delay researching Astronomy quite a bit now in order to have the full benefit of it hammerwise. The Colossus was finished soon enough to make it worth, depending on how many coastal cities you have. But since you have a narrow continent (according to you) that shouldn't be a problem.
1085AD sent. I will play 1100AD still, but then I quit for tonight.

ok, i understand now!
well, astronomy is only needed for physics. you can also cross the ocean with combustion. but then again... it'll probably be 2050ad by then anyway

ok, just to warn you in advance:
- next turn, my capital will expand again and claim approx 5 more tiles.
- the turn after that i will found that jungle city and culture-bomb it. that will instantly give me something around 40 tiles (9+12+16+~20 - whatever is already claimed)
so i reckon with some 200 points or so without a short term profit (that jungle city is meant literally... it has 20 tiles of jungle in its radius and more further around)
so please don't immediately give up when you see that score jump

Stop spoiling my day.
And now we're busy on info stuff: do you know if it is possible for a player to become vassal of an AI-civ (or even another player)?
One thing is sure: you have perfected a classical start setup. I'll never play such a game with you again.
What level do you play in singleplayer? Emperor?
