oh, not seldom my turns will be around 23:00 GMT which is 18:00 EST. maybe it is safer to put canuck ahead of me if he can be sure to play his prior to 18 EST?

I usually play between 23:00 - 04:00 GMT; weekends are more flexible.
Both map sizes are fine with me, but on PBEM I'm partial to Quick speed to shorten production wait times (unless we do a Classical start).-C.

Okay Canuck, I got your email adress, and we're almost ready to take off.
There are only two questions left:
-- Quick or normal game speed
-- Normal or large map size ("giant" seems out of discussion)
I prefer a large map because we are playing with ten civs and will be located on archipelago landscape where land will be short anyway.
Regarding game speed, I have no real opinion because I have never used quick speed. But thinking to myself, "why not?", I tend to agree to trying that out (Sabrewolf and Corossol being in favor of it, too).
To sum it up:
Things being as they are I will set up a "quick game" on a "large map" (or "huge map", how do you call it in English?)
If there are no further objections to that or to something I might have forgotten, you can still send them along. I will have to go to town for two or three hours and when I come back then I'm gonna set up the game.
*****
If everybody agrees I will put Sabrewolf behind Canuck77. From what I understand it should work pretty well with the time zones.
Oh, btw for those who don't know me, I'm from Southern Germany, same time zone as Sabrewolf.

and i like large+quick or even huge+quick
actually my only request is that -should anybody know that they'll be slowing down the game over a longer period of time- withdraws from the game. i'll also agree to that.
maybe some day it is even possible to take over civs from the AI at a later stage (pitboss?)

maybe one thing to prevent frustration: don't chose either "dry" nor "cold". they are the most annoying settings. jungle can be cleared to juicy grassland, but deserts without rivers (which rock!) really suck. trust me... in another PBEM i'm on a big continent with only 4 useful city locations, all of them will have at least 3 desert tiles

Turn 4000BC has been sent to Canuck77. Judging the speed we got this set up with, I'm very confident the game will run smoothly.
The usual advice:
1.
Please keep close contact especially during the first turns. Make sure your mail reaches the following player and contact the player before you in the row if something goes wrong.
2.
Put a note down here each time you send the turn on to the next player (also at least during the first turns).
Good luck to everyone, may the force be with you. My start was a bit disappointing. I hoped for some fish near my starting location so I could build a fishing boat (strategically perfect situation for the Spanish), but my hopes were not fulfilled
@sabrewolf
Sorry, wrong guess. I'm neither Bavarian nor Badener. I've been born in Westphalia, grown up on the Baltic Sea Coast and am now living in Württemberg. There must be some gypsie blood running in my family.

Well, the good news is that I'm trying to preserve the pace of the game.
The bad news is that I've got a problem.
Essentially, I load the game up (Multiplayer-PlayByEmail-Load Game), and select the game - it informs me that "This game is protected to ensure that no changes have been made to your mod directory", I hit OK and it brings me back to the desktop.
I've not done any mods or anything like that.... can anyone help a poor Civ4 PBeM noob?

Oups, I guess I know what's the matter.
I installed the German CivPatch from civilized.de which fixes several language bugs in the localized version. Maybe the game now "thinks" that my version is the original one and yours is modded (although I didn't activate that option you mention). Sorry, I forgot that. I will reinstall the game without that patch. It will take some moments, I will send the new file within half an hour or so.
And of course, we use the official patch 1.52.

Whatever, I sent you a new turn. I hope this one will work - I got my fish all right this time .

Turn played.
I don't have Saber's email address at this point, so I've posted the turn here (sorry).
I wish everyone in the game only slightly worse luck than myself.
EDIT - received his email address, deleting the turn from the thread as I've sent it directly to him.Last edited by Canuck77; January 3, 2006, 15:11.
