i don't want to offend you, but, uhm... you're fairly young, you're intelligent and you are not a super-rich person (all assumptions) --> where is the appeal to you of voting ultra-conservatives?

i just read in the newspaper that the girls at the game exhibition E3 have been ordered to dress less sexy because in the past there were complaints.

what i don't really get is why people offended by partial nudity and violence even go to such places!
i mean... if i don't like gay porn, i will not go to watch such movies. if i am afraid of heights, i'm not going to climb on high buildings...

I'm intelligent, that's why i'm not liberal.

And Bush is not an ultra-conservative. He's very mild compared to others. In fact, that's why he chose Cheney as his running mate, to balance out his mildness.

As for the E3 thing, they may not be offended by it in games, which is the point of the conference, but there doesn't seem to be a point in it in person. Although, from what I've read, it was just a midriff and too much cleveage, which sounds more like a truck stop in Kentucky than a professional conference.

P.S. When is there going to be a Civ4 nude patch?

well, bush is not ultra-conservative, but his real bosses are/were: cheney, ashcroft, etc. and the ones who were more on bush's line or slightly milder (powell, the first speaker, etc) were motivated to leave.

but i'm not speaking about the current administration, i mean in general... what makes the christian-conservative republicans so appealing for young & intelligent people?

- i know that ultra-rich vote red: they profit the most of it.
- i know that idiots (hillbillies, rednacks, etc) vote red: they are easily manipulated by populism making them scared of latinos, homos, etc.
- i know that factory workers and other industrial workers vote red: the republicans are protectionistic in these areas (so are the democrats, but reps sell it better)

but what i don't understand is how the 20%-30% other people of the states that don't match the categories above are so fond of the republicans.


just for the record: in european standards i would be considered middle-right, for some nations (belgium, france) even just right. that puts me somewhere close to the UK and US liberals - in some points i'm further right wing (i hate protectionism ), in some points i'm further left (take care of environment, etc). so i'm not a typical euro-lefty bashing bush. i'm just wondering...

The answer is that reality doesn't always go with the stereotypes. I'm sort of like you then. I think unions are destroying the country (they were necessary 100 years ago, but not now!) and I don't think we should trash the environment (unless it's the only way to get the oil we need, but that would be a very isolated area). Although, I certainly wouldn't consider myself liberal in American terms. The only liberal view I have is on religion. So does that make me a fascist in Europe's eyes? Hehe

thanks for your reply. i still don't quite get where your real appeal is, but then, i don't know nebraska... the only part of the US i've ever been to is new york... and that's also known as the most "european" part of the states in terms of politics and ethics (besides san francisco)
