check F4 and you'll see in the top row what you can trade (ie we don't have). and in our rows you'll see what we've got ahead of you.

now of course you only see the first level one is ahead. for instance we currently wouldn't see whether you also have music, while you wouldn't see whether we've got civil service. etc.

as for blocking diplomacy: no, why should one? both groups have the same possibilities to see the other group's progress...
