Well, it was a new turn, and nobody had played yet in it. So I reckon there's an autosafe from/for the AI civs so to speak?

everybody: would you accept if i host this game so we can relieve dacole from his burden? because i am playing the game i will quickly notice if it's down or not. plus, i keep the civstats page open pretty much every firefox session, so i have overview even when i have played.
what do you think?

Bah am I doing that badly...sigh. except for the car I would have had it up before now. If you want to host it that is fine though. Just be prepared to be a neutral party if questions come up on rules

I just got in and played my turn just fine Dacole.
For myself, I really don't care who is the actual host of the game...I just want someone who will pay attention and administrate the game properly. I understand that we ALL have real lives outside of Apolyton - but when a hosted game is off-line for close to two months, one has to wonder if maybe there is a better host for the game. Trust me, this is NOT the only game that I am in that is experiencing the same issues.
I don't mean to be hard on Dacole and I hope he does not take it that way - this has just been my experience so far.

just for the record, i won't be able to start the hosting until around 9th of september as i'm still in the army.

Hope everything is well just checked in to see how things were going. Had to take the game down for a bit to reboot computer due to updates back up now. Seems to be running a little slow so I would like to run a virus check and such at some point. This would mean taking it down for a couple hours some evening. When is good for everyone? I'll do everything at once run my various software to check it, check for other updates and defrag it.

all is/was working fine last time i logged in (about 24 hours ago).
and sure you can virus-scan! ideal is if you run the scan while the server is running, but if you have to switch it of, that's fine too. just make sure of following:
- plan this break for just after the turn timer changes
- if not possible, load the latest turn (use civstats to see who's the last player).
- exception: if it's late in the turn (ie. less than 8 hrs left) and some have not yet played, make sure that people have enough time to get their turn through, so ideally reload from a save with about 16hrs left or so.

Didn't I tell you all about the job loss when it happened? I have moved to Charlotte and found a new job now yes. Is their a particular day that you would like me to close it down? I can save the game manually so it will be right at where it was when I shut it down.

As long as you do it just after the turn hits, and try not to schedule it during someone's regular turn time (just check civstats, pick a 30 minute interval that wasn't played in the last 2 or 3 days), it shouldn't matter. Weekend is probably better since you can easily do it in the middle of the day or something (assuming you have a 9-5 job, anyway).<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.
