        • Maybe Smellycowsquid? Also, phlucas hasn't played for some time now. I won't be the "eager hand waiting in the wing" because I can't play for the next two weeks, but I'll keep watching. (Even without access to the game, FeMme's detailed report and well-chosen screenshots make it easy to follow. Thanks!)

Some thoughts about Little Tokyo: Having captured it, I don't think we can loose the city itself, but we need to get at least the flood plains in the east and the forests in the north quickly under control to sustain it properly. One option is to take Kyoto as well, but that would drag out the war. Another is to use a Great Artist. We are already accumulating points in Tokyo itself, but - if we make peace - we could also try to get the free one from researching Music first.

I was surprised to see Caesar so low in the wealth ranking after the Romans topped the GNP graph during my last reign ... but then that was 200 years ago. Is there any reliable information about the statistics reflected in the wealth ranking?

By the way, this being my first succession game, I have to add that I really enjoy this way of playing Civ. I've even started a Civ1 succession game with my Dad (who learned to play Civ1 in 1999 and still says it's the only computer game he'll ever need).

I will play in the evening, during Saudi Arabia vs. Ukraine.

Quick look: The cultural situation in Tokyo looks bad, but I do not see us taking Kyoto in the near future. I think I will temporarily make peace, quickly research Literature and start building the Great Library and the Heroic Epic, and then direct research to the lower branch of the tree.

                • Before start:
                  * Rearranged workers a bit, so that more cottages are worked.
                  * Made peace with Tokugawa for Calendar and 50 gold.
                  * Started researching Literature.
                  * Returned attack force fortifies at the border.

                  940:
                  * Heliopolis builds a library, starts a market.
                  * Tokyo gets to the next culture level.
                  * Alexandria is built at the place designated by FeMme, starts on a granary.
                  * With the newly aquired knowledge, several plantations are started. Also, a road shortcut between Thebes and Vetulonia is started (I am a bit paranoid in this regard.).

Currently, we are at -17 gold at 70% science; units cost 4, cities 27, and civics 28. This should be addressed.

                  960: Nothing happens.

                  980:
                  * Literature is researched. I start on Metal Casting.
                  * Edo finishes a workboat, starts on a courthouse.

                  1000:
                  * Memphis finishes a granary, starts the Great Library.
                  * Elephantine finished a granary, starts a harbor.
                  * Tokyo finishes walls, starts a courthouse.
                  * Vetulonia finishes a missionary, restarts a library (in queue).

                  1010:
                  * Osaka finishes a granary, starts a courthouse.
                  * Workers start on an eastern route along the mountains between Vetulonia and Tokyo.

                  1020:
                  * The borders of Alexandria expand. Alexandria has exactly 2 hammers in its radius; whipping might be a good strategy.
                  * In any case, slavery saves us 3 gold per turn, so I switch.

                  1030:
                  * Vetulonia finishes a library, starts a temple.
                  * Confucianism is spread to Alexandria.

                  1040:
                  * Metal Casting is researched. Research on Music starts; judging from Alexander's, Julius' and Tokugawa's technologies, we should be able to get the Great Artist and drop him in Tokyo (or maybe use him for a later Golden Age); I did not find a "somebody has researched Music" message in the logs.
                  * Julius has discovered Feudalism, but is not willing to trade.
                  * Tokyo gets another farm to support more incense desert fields.

1050: Thebes finishes the Sistine Chapel, starts a forge.

1060: Vetulonia finishes a temple, starts a harbor.

And that's it. Not much spectacular happenings, but a little bit of consolidation. With the markets and courthouses in place, our economy should stabilise in the near future; We are currently at -9 at 70%.

                  Next key decisions:
                  * Where to build National Epic?
                  * Use Music's Great Artist in Tokyo or spare him?
                  * Build more missionaries and send them to Alexander?

                    • Ah, a new age of peace and prosperity for Egypt!

                      Short comments:
                      - I'd definitely use Music's Great Artist (if we get him) in Tokyo.
                      - If the culture push gives Tokyo enough flood plains to work with, I'd recommend to put the National Epic there (maybe use pop-rushing). With a huge surplus of food from Tokyo's farmed flood plains we could switch to Caste System again, create lots of specialists and develop Tokyo into a Great Person factory.
                      - Coverting the Greeks is certainly important, but with so much else to do, maybe we can rely on Caesar to do the job. Do they have open borders?

In the medium term, we should get a caravel out. I'm eager to see what the rest of the world is up to.

                          • The people of Egypt would certainly enjoy a second reign of Zeace (who started the war that made Egypt the Great Power it is).

It may also be worth mentioning that we have reached a phase of consolidation which is a particularly good opportunity for new players to jump in.

                                1100 AD
                                - Discovered Music (sweet great artist), started on machinery, aiming for optics(the mills coud give a good boost on some cities)
                                - Great Artist heading for Tokyo
