  • Go on Rex, kill 'em! Kill! Kill! Kill! Kill! Kill! Kill! Kill! Kill!

    Steve
I do not live in London, I live in South London. South London is different, a warm melting pot where everyone can become a bona fide South Londoner by virtue of two things. One: living in South London, and two: having no aspiration to live in the Cotswolds.

      • Played, and i gotta say it was a really prductive one..

        heres the resume

1844 - set the Science to 80%, so we still keep getting some good money, but accelerate our research

        1846
Troops heading to take Athens - Lets crush them
Wallstreet started been built on Thebes (More money is always good)

        1848
Started Hermitage in Memphis, since velutonia cant build wonders anymore
Decided to move troops to take Delphi and Pharsalos

        1850
Lighthouse started on velutonia (stagnant... people need food)
Troops on athens: 4 Longbowmen, 1 pikeman... Piece of cake
Troops on Delphi: 2 Longbowmen, 1 Pikeman... 2 pieces of cake
        Frigates setn to bomb Pharsalos

        1852
Assembly line discovered (nice time to build infantry), researching democracy (3 turns)
        Upgraded some troops to infantry

        1854
Changed to freescpeach, so maybe Argos can get some land from the romans
        Trades made:
Liberalism and 2050 gold fo Scientific method from Huyana
Bribed Montezuma to fight Huyana for Military Tradition and Liberalism (Huyana was growing too powerful, maybe this can hold them for a while, or maybe not)

        1856
        nothing special

        1858
Democacy discovered, going for physics trying for that Great Scientist (later discovered that Someone was quicker than me )
        Athen is ours!!!!!

        1860
Started to build statue of liberty on Velutonia
        Pharsalos is ours!!!!

        1862 Hermitage completed on Memphis

        1864 nothin special

        1866
        Took Delphi!!!!!!

        ---------------

So, this was my government, and for the next generation my sage adivice is that we finish the greeks as soon as possible, since the war weariness is starting to create some trouble on some of our mighty cities...

I did not want to delay our next ruler either.
So, please dont banish me to the few lands of Alexander

With all the excitement of taking over with all the hard work put in buy our glorious rulers I have the honor of saying:

              1868 Research arty
              1870 Started Pentagon(18 turns)
              1876 Research Combustion
              1880 Thermopyle is OURS
1882 +1300 trade misson with JC
1884 Researching Rocketry..tough choice over flight

Defense Miinster is happy to declare:
Only 2 calvary units lost in all the action.
The next city is in our sites and some units are dug into the nearest hill, awaiting some arty and other reinforcements

In General, the first couple arty's should almost be ready
Most of the prior conqoured cities are now in our bounndry and are producing better

                • 1888: Corinth starts the first Destroyer.

1890: Caesar declares war on Montezuma.

1894: We enter the Modern Era with the research of Rocketry. I start on Electricity, a prerequisite for Industrialism.

1896: Got Sparta (loss: 1 Rifleman).

1904: Julius offer spices and wants oil. No deal. We research Electricity and start on Industrialism. Knossos is taken. As there are no immediate war goals near, I stop the war with Alexander, who apparently has two cities somewhere. I make peace and demand one of his cities, and now we know where he hides. People are demanding Emancipation, but without WW this is of no concern.

1906: Thebes finishes a factory, starts Broadway. Kyoto builds the Pentagon, starts a factory. We employ US.

1908: Memphis starts Appollo Program (finishes in 32 turns).

So, with the Pentagon under our belt, we might want to create more units, targeting Caesar. Jails are being built in the lands, so that WW is of less concern. Alexander will be finished off easily, the transports are already coming to the troups.

                      • Hello everyone!

It's nice to be back in Egypt. The game certainly didn't lose momentum over the summer. I had secretly thought that we might drag this one out until the first anniversary of the Civ4 release, but now I see I almost missed the big finish. Unless someone else already has the save, I'd like to play another turnset tonight.

I think it's still a while until we come to the end. A diplomatic win seems to be the fastest possible way: 14 turns until Mass Media (10 if we abandon Industrialism for now), and everyone except for Alexander is "pleased" towards us. Do we have a veto minority by now?

Domination is also possible, but more work (Rome is easy prey, but then we would still have to get several Inca or Aztec cities).

The next two sessions will be quite important with regards to what goal is persued. I am eager to see what will be decided.

                          • Thank you, phlucas. In that case, I will go ahead.

I don't want to abandon Industrialism, but I shall try to keep the option of a UN victory open. In my own games, I haven't had much luck in that regard recently and it would be nice to see us at least try. Somehow I don't see Montezuma and Huayna Capac (even when pleased) giving us their vote, but at least it will be their fault when we turn to one of the other options.

Anyway, I'll now have a more thorough look at the game.

                              • Welcome, fellow students of Egyptian history. We will now turn the early 20th century which - as you shall see - was an exceedingly boring period in our great nation's history. Please do not use the following timeline when preparing for your next history exam. I do not assume any liability for physical damage, emotional distress and loss of income resulting from poor or failing grades.

                                1908 AD
                                - Verrucosus is returned to power after his party's landslide win in the first post-war election. Not having served since 1470 AD, he was quite surprised to learn that he had to win an election before assuming office. The good news is that, being the elected leader of Egypt, he can no longer be sacked at a moment's notice by Pharaoh Makahlua who is still the revered symbol of the nation and its long and proud history.
                                - The traditional tour of all Egyptian cities shows the new leader the vast diversity of modern Egypt. The specialist focus in Alexandria is shifted from science to culture to help keeping up the pressure against Roman influence across the sea. Factory construction in the backwater-town of Argos is halted in favour of a library.

                                1910 AD
                                - Traded maps with the Incas, declined a request of the Romans to attack the Aztecs. Traded Oil to the Romans for Spice and 4 gold/turn.
                                - Several minor civilian projects started on the western coast (granaries, harbour etc.).

                                1912 AD
                                - Declined an Incan request to attack the Aztecs. Traded Marble for Deers to keep the Incas pleased.

                                1914 AD
                                - 4 infantry, 3 cavalry divisions and 1 artillery unit board transports for Ephesus to have some assets in the east of the Aztec/Incan continent if an intervention should become necessary
                                - 2 frigates are replaced by destroyers to patrol our coast, 1 destroyer is sent west to guard the waters near Ephesus

                                1916 AD
                                - Industrialism is researched. We have three local sources of aluminium. Scientists move on to explore the secrets of the Radio.

                                1918 AD
                                - "A friend in need is a friend indeed" as Huayna Capac put it when asking for railroad technology. Verrucosus gave in to avoid getting the "You refused to help us" entry from the Incas. [This decision might be controversial. I wanted to maintain good relations with the Incas and thought that Railroad (which had already been researched by the Romans as well) was not too high a price to pay at this point.]
                                - Several cities start production of tanks.

                                1920 AD
                                - Montezuma asks us to rescind our deals with the Incas. Our refusal causes Aztec attitude to drop to "cautious".
                                - A transport with 2 workers, 1 infantry unit and Egypt's first tank leaves for Ephesus.

                                1922 AD
                                - The Statue of Liberty is unveiled in the harbour of Vetulonia. Specialists from all over the world (mostly scientists) settle in our cities as Egypt becomes the champion of freedom.
                                - The Roman and Aztec Empires make peace.

                                1923 AD
                                - Egyptian scientists discover the Radio and move on to research Mass Media.

                                1924 AD
                                - The last transport arrives at Ephesus. The workers start to develop the Egyptian part of the island. The force assembled at Ephesus moves to the hills north of the city to get a better view of the Greek capital.

                                1925 AD
                                - The Aztecs capture Aztcapotzalco.
                                - After enjoying a relatively quiet term of office, Verrucosus loses the election for no obvious reason.
Apparently, the people's favour can be as unreliable as the Pharaoh's. At least, he manages to defend his own seat in the National Assembly and will continue to represent the good people of Nara (East) in the years ahead.

                                Thoughts for discussion:
                                - The diplomatic situation is tricky. I might have missed a golden opportunity to boost relations with both the Romans and the Incas by joining them against the Aztecs when they asked.
                                - The Aztecs have just taken an Incan city, but the power graph favours the Incas (see below).
                                - Kyoto should finish a tank next turn and would be a good location for the U.N.
                                - The timeline doesn't include all production orders. Cities on the southern continent are still busy with infrastructure, while a number of the northern cities is now building troops.

[Edit: If Platypus Rex smells blood, it might be that of the almost defenseless Greeks. Our forces near Ephesus are in position to attack them immediately if the next player chooses to do so.]
