Shogun, try typing a colon and the port # at the end of your SMTP server name, ie:
mail.servername.com:587

As long as you don't need SMTP authentication, it should work...

Rommel, I tried your suggestion, but I'm guessing I need to provide the username/password for the smtp server. i didn't work for MSN or gmail. thank...I guess I'm waiting for the patch then.

Umm, My password has disappeared? It just lets me into the game.

How do I reset password and how to I set it for other games? I know, RTFM, but I can't seem to find instructions.

The "587" trick doesn't work with my MSN, I'll try it today with my gmail account.

Gmail and MSN apparently both require SSL (password authentication), so CIV wont work with them yet. The bad news is that it doesn't look like this is important enough to be implemented in the first patch.
There is a solid workaround afterall...

I appreciate this information Rommel. Yes, bug fixing has to be prioritized. However, I think that cIV might not be as great regarding Multiplayer as the advertising campaign led us to believe.

I agree it doesn't seem like it should be that much of a problem, but relatively speaking, at least we don't have to wait a year to buy a non-functional expansion pack.

Sadly, it seem like PBEM is like a remote New England town- a nice place, but conditions can get rather tough, and if Washington were to direct many resources this way, the rest of Civland would be infuriated. It's still very pleasant here, though...

OK, since you are reading, and I know now that I am not the only one without answers to these questions:

1- If I am not the player who starts the game, how do I enter my password and email address and stuff?

2- How do I make myself, "admin" or whatever for a game that I do start?

1. alt-d brings up the info add/change pop-up for any player during their turn.

2. ctrl-alt-d from the PBEM set-up screen brings up the admin pop-up.

3. When you start a game, changing the name at the top of the set-up screen gives it a new save folder it will be placed in

We definitely need a forum FAQ soon, alot of this stuff didn't make any of the release documentation...
