Turn BC3900 sent to Saberwolf.
"The Mongolian scout crouched down on the top of the hill and peered out into the distance, hoping for some sign of life in the distance. He was greatly dismayed to see a vast expanse of desert wasteland, as far as the eye could see.
With a long sigh, he stood up once again, brushed the sand off of his ragged clothes, and started his journey down the hillside."

considering that it is a large/huge map (claus, what was the final setting? can you update the first post?), don't expect that you'll meet anybody real soon except a panther or a lion- Artificial Intelligence usually beats real stupidity

BC3850 to Canuck.
Sorry, it took a bit to answer ... I had a Civ4 LAN with a friend yesterday, and after 19 hours of continuous play I desperately needed a handfull of sleep
By the way, for that LAN match we switched off the space race victory option. This made the game a lot more interesting. In my view the late game suffers from everybody just rushing to build those space craft components (one of the very few weeknesses in Civ4). All the other nice stuff like SDI, Internet, U.N. etc is hardly looked upon. Yesterday I almost won by diplomatic victory (only 7 votes missing out of some 600) which was the first time I really gave an eye to this interesting strategic option.
@sabrewolf:
The world map is set to "big" (or what was that again in English, I mean the second largest map possible, not the really big one).
