  • Dinner, please be more careful when you log out. you clicked retire instead of exit which converted our civ to AI. Got a warning from RB about it, no harm done, but if our civ stayed under AI control it could mess things up.

It's the 135th turn, we will get our 14th cities by the next, not much less than the other's (except rb), but I agree we should fill those spots after our cities have grown back to moderate size.

    • just a pic from the western border.
There we could surely use more worker.. but we have 8 universities, we can't have everything..
I'm thinking a way to stop the Maya cutting all the trees not yet belonging to us. They are very active in the area.

if no other input I will write to RB that we don't want long NAPs now, and we could make it till t175, then extend it if we see fit.

      • I agree with proposal to RB re NAP to t175.

Btw Any word back from HRE or WPC.

Also those dark areas on the map., could WPC or HRE help with map exchange.

        • No word from HRE yet.. That's why i1m sending one of our chariots towards them.. I don't think they would up to something, but better be sure.

          • offered the t175 nap to RB who strangely answred that they would prefer either t170 or t180. According to our agreement with the aztec I did not want to choose t180 so our nap with Egypt lasts till t170. I don't think we would be a target at that time, we will have our janissaries by then.

So this means we don't have to expect wars for the next 30 turns, by then we could even get to rifling, but first we need to get economics, then decide where to go next.

              • Had a look. Growth, the economy and research looking healthy. A bit of breathing space we hope to get to janissaries and economics before others.

                • The Oxford will be finished in this turn. (building the 8 univs and the Oxford in 5 turns as planned). We had to make some sacrifices, but it will start paying off.

We will have a great person in 3 tuns, can be almost anything (except merchant). We will have to take a look at our chances for economics. If needed we could enter into golden age, that would cut one turn down from research. Right now I think our chances are good, even without golden age, but it depends how determined the others are (cfc in theory could put all their population as scientist specialist (since they are in caste system) and getting +6 base beakers for them (because of representation) and that's a huge research potential. it would starve heir cities, but they would only need it for few turns.

We will need some money loan to get economics asap, depending on which path we choose it could be 150-300 gold.

                  • I'm interested in learning more about the mechanics of how great person's spawn. Does anyone know of a good wiki?

                    • I am not sure you will find the answer on wiki. better chance searching on this site.

Anyway, GPs are generated from 2 main sources:

Wonders: when built provide 1 or 2 great person (gp) points, depending on the wonder.

Buildings: eg a library allows for 2 scientist specialists to be created, a forge allows for 1 engineer specialist. Each specialist, whether scientist, engineer, artist, spy counts for 3 gp points.

The first GP for the Civ builds at 100 gp points and the next at 200 gp points and later ones at multiples?

The random generator determines what GP you get when you reach the threshold, but the odds are shown according to the number of specialists saved. So with only a library and scientists specialists you are very likely (90+%) to get a Great Scientist (GS). Later as you make forges and factories and groceries and turn citizens into specialist gp points so the outcome when you cross the next threshold is less predictable.

Quite clear they want to kill our cities by their culture.. I do my best to counter them. I did slve that missionary in konya back then, thanks to that we put out 3culture/turn in Izmir already. an other missionary is on his way there. They have a big advantage in this cultural war, they are creative, they could cut the forests etc, but as I said I do whatever I can.

Now it seems Rb is not really interested getting economics.. they are busy preparing for war... drafting macemen, building stables (thanks to our espionage we can now investigate most of their cities).
CFC (our bigger rival for economics) got a great engineer.., they might use it for an other golden age or save it for a wonder.

Oxford is ready, our max research potential is the greatest at the moment and it will grow quite fast even more. (I have recorded our max research potential for the last 5 turns, it went like this: 520 (before slaving)--> 440 (after the mass slaving of universities)-->520 (univs ready)-->540-->530-->698 (Oxford ready). Of course we would get this only if we could keep the research on 100%, which we can't of course (current stable rate is about 60%), but we saved about 880 gold so we can burn it now.

                        • There are many paths i'm considering what to do after economics:

1, rush towards rifling and build as many riflemen we can before the firework starts
2, get nationhood constitution and gunpowder, delay the golden age so we could draft janissaries and at the end of the golden age we could revolt to representation.
3, rush toward communism (free great person + the Kreml, one of the most powerful wonders in the game. It helps a lot raising armies however this path would leave us with the least power by t170)
4, just start filling the missing techs.. construction, ironworking, calendar, aesthetic, literature, optics.. etc

it's too early decie on the path right now. depends a lot if we entering a golden age now, wait till we get the great merchant or wait even more so we could use it to draft soldiers (or we might just use a second golden age for that-but i would prefer if we could draft riflemen with the second golden age.) Also I will consult with some other civ's representatives.

                          • I think path 2 is the safest right now..
Let's build / draft those janissaries!
(but again: don't overdo it: our cities are still way too small)

                            • I want a modern army. I've been wanting this for a while and that means we need janisaries and some sort of bombard unit. Without those we'll be useless against the inca and that means we'll be useless against RB. However if we grab, say, 3-4 Inca cities including their capital... Well, then we're back to being a contender so let's do what Cal wanted plus techs to build siege engines.

                              • We need an army that consists for 40% out of attack untis, 10% of defensive units (jannisaries can be both) and 50% siege units.
                                Step 2 looks good.
