Ozzy this is no good comparison!

I just whipped my library & this is delayed REX.
And the aim of this play through is get a tech lead, get to UB.. etc..

The growth fase has just started.

And you forgot a finished library.

Till t50 I haven't chopped either (actually becaue of city placement I saved forests) I think i'd chop 2 to get he library asap then save the rest after mathematics.
at t50 two of my cities are at limit, i wouldn't let hem grow, I would make more workers/settlers. Grabbing luxuries and cottagespamming. If we can build in peace i'd start making a great scientist and finish it by t64--t65.
if defense needed those hammers put into granaries can instead be chariots/warriors.

Oops, I forgot to add in the production totals of Cal's library and partial builds. That brings his production total up to 414. I still think the difference between the two is significant.

Well, if you want, how about both of you play your saves out till turn 75 and we'll take another look?

Calathian is already in slavery, that's an extra turn for him . also to defen his position: once Academy is up he will get more bonus.

But the early writing/library seems a bit too risky path for me

At turn 40 bronze working is finished, so defense should not be a problem.

But I think a T75 comparison should settle the matter.
But that will be coming tomorrow.

But do we agree that "2N" is not a candidate anymore ?..

I don't like 2N becaue it's sloooooooow... I can build a second city sooner than it's finishes the first warrior after worker.

                    ok

However, on the first turn we will move the warrior NW and it will reveal several tiles that could potentially help 2N's case. Would another resource or two change your opinions?

I think it important that we have a scout or two produced in the mix.

Also I had a look at the CFC demogame I was in. As far as I can determine it was a standard size mirror map with a central core and 6 small island starts for the 6civs. First contact for Team Merlot was around t46 but Team Amazon and Team Sirius had met before that.

My question is this map is Hugh Size - Plako
Huge (game setting) - In reality something between 80-100 x 40-60
with 9 teams and 'space for growth' between adjacent teams ? roughly equal, by what turn could we reasonably expect to make contact with the nearest two/three teams, allowing for terrain and barbs and healing and exploring east and west or north/south.

Depending on who we meet at say t35/t45/t55? and the diplomacy will have an impact on our development.

                        Map makers?

I agree completely. I was assuming that some of those 3-4 warriors they were building would be scouts.

Warriors: can defend our cities against barbarians, can escort our settlers, increase happyness limit, give better position for us negotiating NAPs.

the scouts only advantage their speed. I wouldn't spend hammer on them, those are very precious in the beginning.

Considering the importance of early contact and building up a good alliance with your neighbors, speed is very precious itself. A scout that leads to an alliance with a neighbor is worth far more then a warrior defending us from that neighbor.

I'm sorry but what are NAPs?
