Counsel Meeting
Among the counsel there were many strong and clever men.
Yuri - Overseer of the Southern Mines.
Karp - Instructor of the Volga Barracks.
Foma - The most influential trader in the village, with ties to many nations.
Borya - Settler of disputes in the village, known as the "Headsman".
Kolzak - Hunter and scout from the border forests, slayer of many beasts.
Yevgeny - The Farmer regarded as Wise Man of the Village, reader of leafs and other omens.
Simon - A good-looking man famed for his ways with both women and men.
Much of the infighting had been dealt with swiftly by Borya. His fairness was not outdone by the grisly fact that he had the most outspoken of each faith beheaded. A triple display of heads outside each village as a warning to all who would dare disrupt the daytrade by fighting among their own. It was a grim deed, but it worked. Reports of infighting had dropped to almost nothing.
Foma had used the many new arrivals during the Religious Triptych to build trade ties to new tribes, now bringing increased income to the treasury of Volga. For this he was much praised.
Kolzak had many reports from the borders to the north. He was not praised these days after a group of Barbarian Axemen had suddenly appeared outside the city itself! Only the swift action of Karp and his well-trained archers saved Volga from being plundered. Afterwards, training of men had increased, scouts and archers being sent out to maintain watch of the North border and the Barbarian village known to be there. It was well fortified beside a river, and would be difficult to deal with.
Yevgeny had better news from the workers in the field. They had completed the road to Moscow and were in the process of setting up farmsteads to gather more food for the new village. He did however stress that they needed protection, and Karp promised to send a company of archers to guard them in their labour.
Simon came to the session late, with a lazy smile on his face. After all the others had spoken he got their attention, and proceeded to tell them of his endeavours the past week. He brought smiles and happy faces to the counsel, and some private thoughts that would find answers later that evening..
Yuri was silent most of the time, thinking about the religious messenger that had arrived earlier that day. When he shared his thoughts at last to the rest of the counsel, it was as none of the other matters had happened. Everyone became agitated and it was at last Borya who kept the peace, banging the heads of Yevgeny and Yuri together. After that, they decided to meet again in five days, to see if any other religious messengers would come.
