  • New type of diplo game

    This game is now underway:

    server: plomp.eu:2065
    password: none

    Turn timer: http://www.playyourturn.com/?page_id=17&gameID=109 (anonymous)

    Everybody picks a civ on a first come first served base. You must password it to lock in your selection.

    The random selection of civs:

    Ragner
    Justinian
    Peter
    Pacal II
    Gilgamesh
    Boudica
    Lincoln
    Qin Shi Huao
    Hammarubi
    Napoleon
    Hatseputs
    Genghis Khan
    Augustus Caesar

    The Players - showing Apolyton handles: (let me know of any spelling errors)

    * Toni
    * Robert Plomp
    * Hercules
    * St Jon
    * BranksDilly
    * trev
    * deity
    * Pinchak
    * lzPrst
    * The Priest
    * The_Aussie_Lurker (Marcus)
    * bamf226
    * mzprox

    The Rules:

    * No Space Victory allowed

    * No tech trading at all (simplifies things)

    * Ozzy corrected Terra map

    * 10 hour timer till 2000 BC; then we vote for a continuation till 0AD

    * Epic speed.

    * Random civs (I'd prefer that top players handicap themselves if possible e.g. no financial trait etc. But don't get complicated. No judgements to be made.)

    * No elimination until after 1000AD

    ---OLD--- original post to get a game going ---OLD---

    Hi all,

    I guess a new traditional style diplo game will commence soon enough but I was wondering about another style of game.

    Firstly I think many who play in the big diplo games could handle another concurrent game provided there was no posting pressure.

    Well, what about a full on anon diplo game where the ONLY negotiations occur in-game!

    No posts, no way of giving away anon.

    A pure game and you don't know who is who.

    My preference:

    Pitboss hosted by our fav friend He's the best!

    12 hour equiv timer.

    Huge Earth map first pref OR ozzy map.

    As many players as possible.

    DoC Rules.

    How about it?

        So it's just a pitboss game without in-game diplomacy, no stories.
        (and no voting/rating).

        That sounds like something that's not too time consuming.
        I'm in.

        I'd suggest to try to play without double move rules and without timer-extentions during wartime; in short: uncomplicated fun.

        I'll see if I can get a 2nd pitboss server running.

            This just sounds like an anon FFA as the only win/lose is IG.

            I agree with Cyber that the double-move rules and timer extensions have no place in such a game.

            If it is so free and easy then why not just let the game decide the map on a fractal basis?

            Good idea and I'm in.

              I'd like to join too.

              I'm in DoC as well but if no posts are required I'd be able to do both.

                Diplo-style with measured war, in-game negotiations

                I think we play diplo-style with measured war, in-game negotiations etc; but no posts or PM's. If someone seems to be playing outside the spirit of the game (like killing a civ early) we don't complain in the threads but sort it out organically and within game character. We want this to be fun for all players until the end-game

                So good you are keen on this Cyber! That means it WILL happen!

                And I agree on eliminating rules difficult to manage (like the double-move rule) so it's fun, yes

                We all agree up front on the timer (say 12 hours equiv) and that's it. If you miss a turn we keep playing. No stopping. The server is only rebooted or stopped for tech reasons.

                Looks like there is solid demand for this style of game and I'll play whatever map...

                  Thus far:

                  * Toni
                  * Cybershy/RP
                  * Hercules
                  * St Jon
                  * BranksDilly

                  Cyber, is it possible to start the game with the staging screen so that we can all pick civs on our own and once all are selected move into the game?

                    I would suggest not using the limited war rules Jsut leave it to the in game civs to take action if one civ is being abully.

                    That makes a better DIPLO game than artificial rules.

                    Will also mean people will have to defend themselves early too just in case someone attacks mercilessly

                    Jsut my .02c worth

                    would make a more fun game if even complete civ wipeout is possbile but only preventable by other in game civs caring enough to prevent it.

                      No posts, no voting?

                      No mechanics rules?

                      Sounds like a standard pitboss game unless there is something I am missing here.

                        By going back to basics on what Diplo was about , except deity doesnt want the forum posting stuff. All negotiaions will be done in game.

                        forcing the in game decisions to be more improtant

                            By using diplo-inspired players we can have a diplo style game without the pressure of posting. And it can run concurrently with a traditional diplo game so that any players in both games will have the time to play two pitboss games.

                              Actually you are right, I guess we are saying the same thing as rules won't be forced.

                              It will find its own balance based on the quality and integrity of players in the game. The current diplo crowd is awesome and I urge anyone in DoC to consider this game; and you too Pincak old buddy No rules for any argument! It might be a bit difficult
