Newcomer seeking game

Hello everyone! Came across the site not too long ago and I find the idea of diplogames absolutely fantastic. I've always wanted to play a more diplomacy-oriented version of Civilization, and this seems like the perfect place for it! How do I go about joining a new game? I did read the guide that was posted, but I'm still not too sure what to do or where to go.
