  • Marcus of Rome,

Sparta has also been attacked by Mayan soldiers since we started our temporary cease fire. We did not fire back though. I do understand your difficulties to not counter Mayan attacks. I believe though that the Mayan must get some time to learn to deal with the new situation. Some small fights started by them will for that reason not mean to me that the cease fire has been ended.
My armies will fight back when attacked by Mayan soldiers, but we will not initiate new battles ourselves.

Today Sparta has shown it's good intentions to the Mayan by not killing their Great Engineer and Great General, even though these important Spartan leaders were within the fire range of some of my infantry units.

You say that my troops would not be able to continue this fight against the Mayan.
It's up to you to believe so. I do believe that 7 infantry, 2 cannons and 2 machine gunners will beat 2 machine gunners and 2 infantry easily. Especially since my infantry units were all promoted with anti-gunpowder unit promotions.

It would've been a bloody battle though indeed, and I'm glad that I took the decision to not initiate the battle. Many Mayan and Spartan lives were saved today.

    • Portugal is very disturbed seeing that Rome has conquered the Maya Holy City, which lays far outside the buffer Rome wanted to control. Is undefended Maya to be destroyed totally I respectfully ask Rome?

      • From: President Rostislav Vladimirovich
To: All Free Nations of the World

As I board the train to Rome to meet with Custos Marcus I too begin to share Portugal’s concerns. Though I now realise the errors of the Foreign Ministry’s reports over justification for Roman attack, and will admit as much in apology to my closest Friend and Ally in Rome, the continued assault on Maya looks to have gone too far. The actions of the Hellenic sheep worriers were of no surprise but Rome is a civilised nation. The time must now have come for restraint and clemency. The Mayan Government must surely realise that negotiation now is the only way forward also. The question must be asked however, as to whether or not there remains a Mayan Government to negotiate with? It cannot be right that another nation should follow Piercia and Inca into occupation and obliteration. Russia would wish it otherwise.

In matters of War elsewhere, Russia is deeply concerned at Portugal’s unprovoked attack upon the Khmer. Why, Xristo, have you embarked upon this criminal action? Yurya is a kind and gentle man leading a nation as committed to peace and humanity as Russia itself. What has caused you to send forth your Spy’s to disturb their country and then throw your massive armies against them when your misdeeds were uncovered?

On matters more pleasing, I have set a date for the first full, free and fair elections ever to be held in Russia. I, it is true, was fairly elected to office by the free-will of all factional leaders following the overthrow of the tyranny of Andrei Bogolubski but now is the time for Universal Manhood Suffrage to come to pass in Russia. I have, myself, been both proposed and seconded as candidate for The Peoples Party of Russia. I await for other nominees to be put forward. The Duma have voted that an independent nation be asked to send observers to guarantee that nothing can be held to be amiss in this great step forward. I have signed their motion and ask that our distant friends, The Metalheads, send a party of observers to ensure that no election malpractice take place. I hope that they will oblige us in this as they are truly neutral whilst Rome and Khmer are known to be close friends of mine while other candidates might enjoy the favour of other, less savoury, Powers.

        • President Rostislav Vladimirovich of Russia,

I hope that you soon will realise your errors regarding the Spartan liberation of Korea.
While Sparta has restrained itself and didn't conquer any Mayan territory while liberating Korea, keeping the loss of Korean, Mayan and Spartan lives as low as possible, it is Rome who almost succeeds in destroying all forms of Mayan independence.

I do expect you to apologize to Sparta for the lies you spread and the absurd claims you made regarding the Spartan liberation of Korea. Whether you like or dislike this liberation, the truth must be told. Sparta has not slaughtered any Korean civilian and we have restrained ourselves a lot and moved all our armies from Mayan territory.
Remember that Sparta was forced to free Korea after the multiple Mayan attempts to invade Spartan territory from Korea and their continuing betrayals.

It was Sparta who called upon the Romans first to cease their hostilities towards the Maya and be happy with the succes they had by reaching the targets they had set before their invasion started.

If Russia continues to hold this attitude towards Sparta I do not see a bright future between both our nations. I have no problems with Russian criticism towards Spartan activities but we do honour the truth a lot. If you continue to support these lies and and false rumours you spread about the Spartan liberation of Korea I don't see much reason any more to trust Russian claims about anything in the future.

I hope that you now realise that you have been betrayed by your informants and ta you will deal with them in an adequate manner to show the world your honour and dignity.
Sparta does not condemn believing a lie at once, we do condemn continuing to believe lies in a very stubborn way though.

          Emperor of the Spartan Empire

          • The future of Maya

            Marcus.

I write to you to appeal to your sense of justice and fair play. I echo the many sentiments expressed in the world by great leaders all urging restraint in the Mayan war.

The Khmer have urged this for some time. We feel that your arguments tend to justify rampant expressionism () whereas Sparta by comparison achieved a goal and locked down defence. I'm sure you could do the same bearing in mind that your arguments about securing a northern strip of Maya for defensive purposes is fraught with a credibility gap when you consider Rome's capability in dominating the intervening ocean.

The loss of Tikal has turned world opinion against Rome. You need to act quickly Marcus.

You need to set up a diplomatic conversation, with or without Maya, of all interested parties. Surely with international aid you can restore the main Mayan cities and with help simply repell attacks and only reduce Mayan armies without taking cities. This approach will yield far greater international acclaim.

            Your old friend Yurya.
