It's very well possible that some civs knew each other from the beginning, like Ozzy said.
Civs that aren't supposed to know each other should just ignore each other in-game, don't open borders, don't exchange techs, etc.

There's nothing we can do about it, all we can do is restrain ourselves.

I would have liked the two civs involved to have posted it in the org thread so everyone was aware of it.

        but that is just me.

Why would two civs have contact? That makes no sense. Why would you set it up like that?

ozzy said it above, accidental misakte when making map , palcing starting citys and starting units. once they met unless you rembember and go bsck a nd clear the Script of which civs met who, you stuck with it forever.

Next questions; why is the map maker playing in the game? Why has another player seen the map in advance?

Cause we have 18 players in this game, there aren't that many people left over who could make a map but not play. I don't think it gives the map maker too much of an unfair advantage. I'm not worried.

Yeah but you can't possibly deny that a third party would have been best, and probably relatively easy to get.

And honestly it does Ozzy, they know where resources are (potentially) and they will certainly know where to explore. If you could even refer to that as "exploring."

Capo, with respect, why don't you read over the threads that led to the setting up of this game rather than blowing off all over the place?

The map was created and the civs placed in agreeance with all registered players. It was cleverly done in the most discreet way possible given that third parties were not an option (and you were no where to be seen).

Pinchak did a great job on the map. The civs were placed by anonymous numbers. The map maker knew NOT who was what civ.

It was sent to Cyber for hosting and several errors had to be fixed before the game could get under way.

These two have worked tirelessly to set up and manage a most difficult game with a very difficult group of people - some with inappropriate agendas.

Just accept the things that were agreed, well, for this game anyway.

So far... I LIKE this map. Some minor tweaks would have made it perfect, but then it wouldn't be much of a challenge, so the balance appears to be about right.

In fact I hope there is a skull island! With ALL Uranium.

Pinchak said there'd be a few surprises and he hoped we'd like them.

                          This is a cool idea.

                              Someone likes skull island!

Joking aside, the intent of it was to create a small area of ULTRA valuable land that would not be realized until late in the game... then watch the sparks fly.

I still imagine it will be hotly contested, but seeing it play out in a more natural way would have been great. That is of course if it exists.

Nuke power when properly managed is one of the most clean power generation methods. Alot of people talk about solar, hydro, and wind, but these don't even come close to the power/investment ratio of nuke. A few of the major world dams come close, but they do a number on the local environment.
