Playing LAN game over IP? Possible?

Question:

I started a multi-player game using LAN over my home network. Now the person I started playing with isn't available. Is it possible to open up my LAN save game as an IP internet game? We'd like to play over the internet using our saved LAN game. VPN would take a lot of setup. Is it possible?

I think I answered my own question. I did load game in Direct IP option and it appears to load it fine. Now I just need to make sure my dad and I can get through our firewalls to play.

Yes all MP saves should be compatible to move from one mode to another, they just can't be loaded as a SP save.

If you don't want to mess with firewalls there's an excellent tool called Hamachi. It's free and basically puts everyone on a virtual LAN. Just make sure everyone uses the Hamachi IP address to connect to the host. I also use this tool when some people are on my LAN and others are coming in from the outside.
