    What happened to Sid?

1st Sid Meier game I've played was 'Up Periscope!' and that was 1987 or 20 bloody years ago!

Then followed 'Pirates!' , 'Civilization', 'Colonization' and all time classics 'Civ 2' plus 'Alpha Centauri'.

And now we have Civ3, Civ4, CivThis and CivThatPlus.

Bull, I'll say. 10 years of nothing but squeezing an old idea.

    BOOO!

Granted CIV II is the all-time God of the civ family, but He's milking a REALLY good concept and obviously we all keep on buying and playing it..

Civ4 is much better than Civ2 ever was. Sorry, its true.

As big of a fan as I was of II, IV BTS is better.

I have to agree... I loved Civ II but hated III.

Civ IV was solid, but both Warlords and BtS added significant improvements to the game. It is now the best Civ game by far!

It will be interesting to see what is in store for Civ V
            Keep on Civin'

I haven't even played Civ4 ever, since disaster with Civ3.

OK...I believe it's good, very good even, since hard core veterans praised it constantly, but I really miss Sid's creativity. It's a shame that such a great game creator can't find some time to develop just one more epic game. And by that I don't mean some Civ clone.

Lately, first time in my 23 years of gaming, I feel like an old man
I simply can't find a joy in gaming. Few months ago I finally replaced my old piece of junk with brand new megamachine only to find out that all new games basically suck.
Only game worth playing lately was Half Life 2 with sequels.
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 multiplayer is still my favorite, and I could still played it on my old PC.

                bioshock apparently kicks rear end.
call of duty is very good.
company of heroes is great strategy despite being RTS.

as for sid. I would like to see new ideas, but making a game now is such an intensive endeavour that too often doesnt kickoff well enough for it to be profitable. and with the costs involved not being profitable is a death sentence. it is the unfortunate law of markets.

Bioshock ? Isnt that a game from like 1994/5 ? Well, i guess i am with SmartFart - just too old

I think the name "sid meier" stands for an era, when a guy with decent programming skills could pick a topic of his interest and could not only turn it into a game, but also into a commercial success. That one man alone can still make a decent game is IMHO best demonstrated by "Startegic Command II" (by Hubert Carter, IIRC), though i doubt that this one is/was a commercial success... Still the best one-on-one WW2 TBS game out there, if you ask me...

                      Couldn't agree more

Though civ4 I enjoy multiplayer as well. Of course, you could always go the route most people do and get a MMORPG like world of warcraft. You might get addicted though! Don't say I didn't warn you.

As for first person shooters, I had a lot of fun with both bioshock and crysis. They're different games for sure, but I'm usually not a fan of first person shooters yet I liked both of these games. Crysis though, you'll want to make sure your 'megamachine' can handle it. It can bring even the highest end computers to their knees.

I also really liked world in conflict. If you don't find calling in tactical support like airstrikes in fun, then you truly have lost your desire to game :P World in conflict video:

Now granted, WiC isn't much of a strategy game (at least, it doesn't even remotely compare to the civ series as far as depth of strategy goes).

speaking as an ex-wow-oholic, WoW is great fun, but it has its limitations, but likely you will get far more great entertainment hours out of it than your average game before you tire of it. otoh, it will take up a lot of your time.

I've tried Crysis. My PC handled it quite well, but game itself couldn't aquire my attention more than 2 days. Then my older son screwed up my saves and I lost my interest.
After Half-Life 2 I just can't find any FPS worth of my time

Never tried neither CoD4 or Bioshock, but I will soon.

WoW...I'll avoid it. I just have no time for MMORPG's. Knowing how some of my good friends got hooked (and all the troubles they having with their wives), I'll probably never get near to it.

I have been weening myself off WoW for some months now, but just can't make the decision to cancel my account. Getting close though.

I love Civ IV, although I am still new to it...have been enjoying CTP since it came out, but this really is a step forward.

Civ II is the grandaddy, for sure...I could still enjoy a game of it today.

I think you're thinking of BioForge, from back when Origin was still arond and had not been totally assimilated by collective known as EA :P

Bioshock looks awesome though; I'm just waiting for a non-SecuROM version first
