  • BTS and MP

Theres been a lot of talk, a lot of rumors and now the game is finally out for some and quite soon for others.

I thought this would be a good place to post your opinions about whether BTS will be a good platform for MP. Will things like the new espionage features, siege engine changes, and the heavier tech requirements for grens and calv, make this game undesireable for MP.

Will EON post that the game was broken before but now it's totally unplayable.

I would love to hear from people that have it already.

        Do you need to ask?

I think espionage will take some getting used to, but I don't think it is incompaitble with MP.

Ya the jury is still out on espionage, but I think in the long run it won't be bad for MP, although I hope it becomes an option as well.

I do not think it is optional.
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

That's why I said "I hope it becomes...", as in as part of a possible future patch.

Face it - like everything else in life we are in the hands of the corporate giants. If a new version comes out - it will become THE VERSION. A few groups of players might linger around and play other versions, but if you are seriously hoping for a "RAH's SATURDAY GAME" that invovles more than 3 or 4 players you gotta upgrade and then decide on which new features you want to use or outlaw.

BTW if you dont upgrade - I'll always be one of the 3 or 4 still playing with you guys.

I meant that the game should recognise the "old" version for things like pbems, mods etc - would just make sense (to me anyway) and would make life easier.

BTS does include a full copy(less scenarios) of Warlords that uses the BTS disk to boot. So I think Firaxis did do a good job of still supporting the older XP. But you really can't import a save from WL to BTS when BTS has so many mechanisms that don't exist in WL, and not to mention all the changes made to old features....I just don't think trying that would be feasable.

Espionage is the least of BTS' worries. Civ4 is the end of Civ MP. They'd have to pull some sort of miracle to make Civ5 successful as an MP game. In fact, I wouldn't really be surprised if Civ5 shipped without MP. As I talked about with Ming, I think Civ will eventually become one of those games with 15 sequels that they continue to put out that just goes straight to the cheapie bin and sells for about 10 bucks. It will make a profit, but I don't think it will ever have the following it once had. Civ 4 is the beginning of this.

Probably a bit too much doom and gloom, but I would like to see one more expansion pac.
                            CIV IV MP
One where the play testers focus JUST on the MP aspects. While I'm sure the game will never be up to EONs expectations, there are quite a few things that could be tweaked for MP.

CIV will always be a big money maker for SP. It's too bad there's not more money in MP or it would get more focus.

If there is a third XP focusing on MP issues, I would be quite...no, very interested in who the testers were.
