At any rate, if the empire was played by a person I am sure it is still worth playing. Count me in.

Maybe Levi putted a password on his civ.
In that case you should take another civ, close your eyes and don't peek at that civ, advance the turn, and save the game.

THe password should be removed then after you load that game.
But indeed, leaving all password fields blanco oftenly works as well. For some strange reason the game sometimes comes with a password pop-up if there's no password as well.

Yes - great session the other night! Getting the hang of this MP thing.

Toni - you asked about my set-up, and what, if anything, could be causing connectivity issues at my end. This is my older machine that I brought down to Florida with me, but it is still OK.

From diagdx we have:

P4 2.4
1 gig RAM
XP Pro 5.1
Direct x 9.0c
Geforce Fx5500 card - 256 meg

Running on dsl at 3 Mbps download/512Kbps upload - ISP is Earthlink; phone service is Embarq.

Using an Embarq ADSL 660 Router.

I use Earthlink's security software - but with the firewall down.

Windows firewall also down.

Pitboss and all other apps, other than a chat service, are down.

Rebooted router and and PC at the start.

So, any ideas?

I got the chance to actually talk with Levi, and he brought me up to speed with the Zulu's situation.

Anyone who wants to make political offers is free to PM me. However, based on Levi's briefing, I fear I may be limited in my options.

Beta, what sort of connectivity issues are you having exactly??? Not being able to connect, getting dropped, or just lag in general?

From looking at your list, the router itself might be the issue. A router is a hardware firewall (as opposed to a software firewall) and if it is not configued right will give you all sort of connectivity issues.

My suggestion would be next time you try to play, connect directly from your DSL box to your comp without the router. If the "router" you are refering to is actually your DSL modem, then I would recommend looking into configuration options for it.

I would say 90% chance if you are using a router in addition to your DSL modem, that is the problem.

Levi mentioned some "rules"...

You cannot take a capital city??? Are you guys kidding?

You cannot trade a tech you did not research... this one is more reasonable.

The point is to keep everyone in the game. You don't try to eliminate people or attack people just for the hell of it. The point is to try and behave as if you were a real nation and act accordingly.

Ok, I read the diplo thread. Pretty crazy concept, I will try to play along best I can.

I expecially liked the part about how handouts and gifts are often given to human players who take over an AI, or botched civ.

In all reality though, my understanding (from talking to Levi) is that the Zulus are in bad shape. Behind in tech, with crap land. In addition to that, Levi noted that he has "slaved the daylights" out of his citys in order to... ehem... expand.

At any rate... I'll give it a shot. Sounds like a fun concept, the whole roleplay thing.

A few questions...

1. What map type and size are we playing on? Sea level, barbs, all that good stuff.

2. Although i read the diplo guide I still have a few questions....
2a. Where do you actually roleplay? Between sessions in this thread? Between turns in "ALL" chat? Both?
2b. I'm not sure i get how to roleplay "actions". For instance... lets say that I want some land (start war). Do i need to invent some story as to why? Is bloodlust a good reason? How bout greed? Or do i need to invent a story about how the king of persia was doing my sister in the back of his caravan?

Please bear with me... just trying to get a feel for the medium.
