It was definitely DD, when I loaded the save as Mali it didn't crash.

Was it just his dumping out of game that fried it? His connection was fading in and out all game.

Or something else?

I don't think he cheated ... he wasn't doing well enough for someone using a crack.

Wonders are easy ... build a city in a woods-hills area, and hack out the first two, and build the rest. If you have such a town with a Great Wall, Pyramids, and a Forge, it will just keep pumping out great engineers. Add Hanging Gardens and Hagia Sophia, and it gets even faster.

Add a specialized settler-pump city, and you are set. You can even move your palace, and use your old capitol as a settler pump if hammers are hard to come by ... when you have enough cities, shift gears and make it a great person pump.

Dom seems to be pretty good at balancing rabid MP ferocity and builder-mania. A hybrid builder/warmonger can be difficult to deal with.

Well that's all good theory... I don't usually chop woods until I have Mathematics but otherwise I know how to run an Empire like you say! However in the game we played, for one player to amass 5 cities that got to size 10 so early, growing that much while still churning out wonders (IIRC GE wonders weren't built until quite late into the game) seems really difficult! I mean I was building a small military, had a few cities with lots of food but even then they weren't growing that large (But then I do like my slavery), gold and decent manufacturing, putting out settlers every now and then to expand, PLUS the game gifted me two more Barbarian cities that I got to occupy. I need to find the magic secret formula that Dom uses

On the plus side in that game I had ridiculously high GNP (At least twice that of anyone I'd met, including Dom ) due to flood-plain start, but after spending 30 turns building and chopping out the Great Library, if we'd lasted another turn I think I'd have been somewhat peeved to find Dom was to build the GL right before me. Heh...

It was a boring night for me.
Didn't meet anybody the first game. And I did sent out galleys.
The second game, the same except right before the end someone's culture finally extended outward enough for an AI galley to make it across.

It was annoying to hear about all the other's interaction knowing it would be a long time before I could.

You think you had a boring night... I was free for the evening just 10 fricking minutes after you sent the ICQ asking if I was around for a late game... sigh...

To make this clear... DD did nothing wrong (well, except for leaving the game early, which is just annoying). The problem was the AI itself. Occasionally you will find situations where the AI causes a CTD due to some unhandled exception in the AI logic. Taking out the AI takes out the exception (since you don't need to use the AI logic).
