Maybe next time we do teams, we spend one turn on hold at around 2500 BC so members can trade empires.

It depends. As soon as we have enough players (and those that said they'd be there) show up, it's hard to delay for long. People want to play. I usually start checking for people around 5 US central. It can take anywhere between 20 minutes to 90 minutes to actually get the game started. The best thing to do is post in this thread the day of the game. I could tell right away we weren't going anywhere with that start: both rah and I were on peninsulas (mine was two tile wide) so you had most of the Pangea to yourself without even trying.
Still, I'm glad we stuck it out...playing the bad starts makes you appreciate the average ones.

And since it was my fist team game, it had a special interest, but yeah when I say Dom's and my opening position I figured it wouldn't be a very long game. But guess what, I still enjoyed it. Granted teams is different but you sill get to watch others play and see what they do differently than you. And since I really don't care for ladder type scoring and chest thumping, enjoyment is the primary goal for playing civ.
