Rah's saturday game II

Yea we had a great game indeed 9 players total. It was quiet at my end, my neighbors were friendly all game which let me to focus on developing my civ. Later some sujested that I should be attacked, knowing this was a real possibility I had the biggest military just in case. Sorry that i had to leave somewhere 4:30hrs into the game but the mrs impatience was growing out of hand.

It was a great game and certainly Toni got off to a great start, only industrial civ with great production and gold mines in his cap allowed him to build heaps of wonders. My game was not bad either being a clear second in score, very close second in production and closing, would have moved ahead if game had continued probably, clear leader in land area and number of cities with still more expansion room, a military that was a strong 2nd to Toni. I would have liked to have seen if I could have converted the larger area and number of cities into the dominant civ eventually, unfortunately lack of time messed that chance up, the main area I was behind in was GDP and science with the early rapid expansion leaving me with 40% science rate for a lot of the game, but that was starting to change when game finished with increasing money coming in and multiple Great Scientists also helping to push my science along. A real pity players like Snotty and Toni had to leave forcing an early finish to the game.

Yes a fun game despite some crappy land on my part.
I got an early scout from a hut that eventually let me open about 14 huts. Some day I may actually get a tech from a hut. But I really enjoyed the 10 maps that I got

Hopefully during the next few holiday weeks, we can get a few more games in.

It'd be good if the games could get going a bit earlier for us Euroscum though; I couldn't play last Saturday either way, but a start after 1.30a.m. (Or whenever it was for you guys) wouldn't have been much good (Unless we start playing "Quick" speed games).

Aussie players and friends are looking to play games over the next week or so and would welcome other participants. These games will be played over several days, until the finish, or a winner is obvious and possibly at epic speed, although some players prefer marathon, that can be discussed when game starts, respond on Aussie thread with MSN or ICQ details if interested. These games may start in the Aussie morning or afternoon which will make it afternoon or evening for USA players.

I"m off Friday-Monday so starting Thursday night I'll be looking.

And as bad as the random civ was for me, I might be tempted to try again, even as brutal as it was. Granted if we hadn't had so many problems and had gotten a bit farther, I might have finally got involved in the fighting.

The one point I'd like to make though is that after a single session, you have a pretty good clue who the winners and losers are and getting the losers to continue is not easy. I guess the trick is to play with a few less people and just play long enough that it becomes really obvious. But as we've seen, even the head cat has problems if all the little rats act together.

I liked the random civs too - maybe if we wanna go more than 1 session we should do something more like islands or cust conts. That would delay the early battle that tend to knock people (like me ) out quick.

On Pangea someone in the middle usually get attacked from both sides at the same time (which is what Deity and Dangime did to me last game). That becomes pretty hard to survive.
