  • Pitboss as a windows Service?

Can it be done? I'd like to run pitboss as a windows service ... anyone know how to set this up?

It shouldn't be too hard if you're familliar with the intricacies of Windoze, but I'd have to do mroe research to say for certain. And I'm not doing that at 2:30am.

Well I it looks like using a 3rd part program called Firedaemon would allow me to install and run it as a service....

But I'm guessing I will still get the GUI and DOS window - is there any way to avoid these? Where is dev/nul when you need it =)

Secondly I'd need to be able to have pitboss default to loading a specific save game.

Maybe it isn't going to be as practical to do as I'd hoped.

I've been doing some more reading and saw that there is an option to specify a different root ... is there a reference some place for these options?

The alternate root part is an alternate root folder for Civ4. This allows you to run several games at once with wildly different settings, none of which should affect your base install (this is not always the case, unfortunately).
