MUCHO THANKS to Dominae for a quick 2v2 versus AI and running tutorial.

Need more volunteers to get me up to speed over the next week!!

I just played in an FFA... I was kicking *ss, but was getting MAJOR grief for being too slow.

      Any tips?

Turn off all show moves, show combat options, this will speed you up a lot, also try to finish turn, then micro while others are completing turns, may mean you will miss doing some microing, but it will keep the others happier.

What was the turn timer set to? If Blazing, forget about the other players and just take your time (as much as you have). Just because others are impatient because they're done their turn does not mean you need to speed up yours.

          Practice obviously makes you faster.

Also, learn all the automation tricks (city build queues, gathering points, Worker action queues, keyboard shortcuts). Only go into the city view to micro when you're finished with everything else. Zoom out so that you do not waste time scrolling the map.

            What does this mean?

            What are "Worker action queues"?

You can still do stuff after you've hit the end turn button: wake up fortified units that did not move yet, micromanage your cities, etc.

              What are "Worker action queues"?
If you hold SHIFT down while giving a Worker a task, you can queue up the tasks it will do next. For instance: SHIFT + (Chop Forest - Build Cottage - Build Road).

Also the Worker automation commands are not so bad once your key improvements are in place and/or you have a surplus of Workers. I use the "Road To..." command a lot.

Yeah, I played tonight with a focus on speed, and thus automation.

I found that as long as I had at least a few manual Workers, things were more or less OK. Will try Worker queuing next. I know it's perhaps dangerous, but it seems to me that overproducing Workers would be beneficial.

Still getting the hang for what I can do when it's not my turn... clearly a huge timesaver for overall game progress.

Also, and I know this is bad, I found myself building longer lead-time stuff to relieve the time pressure. Common mistake?

On a separate note: There seem to be a number of less experienced players joining games through the Lobby. Haven't played and Ladder folks yet.

Last thing: Seem to be having a problem with the Advisor screens again. Crashed on both F3 (with you, DOminae) and later on F7. This is after a clean re-install... anybody have any ideas?

(actually it was more Jon Miller and Theseus beat the crap out of each other an I walked in to an unsuspecting Theseus with a stack of something like 15 Cossacks...)

Good game. I got lucky being being on the far side of the map and you and Jon so close (plus an early Great Engineer that I used to get gunpowder early making Military Tradition an easy score to get my UU).
