  • Running a multiplayer game over home network

Hey there gents. I was hoping that some of the more technically savvy could lend a hand here.

I was hoping to play against my father here at his house before I took to return from whence I came. I can't quite figure out how to get multiplayer up and running. Here's the setup and what I've tried thus far:

Internet is provided via cable modem, which is hooked into a wireless router. The desktop PC where my dad has his copy of Civ4 is physically connected via Cat5 cable into the router. My laptop is connected to the network wirelessly.

I tried setting up a game using the LAN option, but neither computer could detect a game created by the other one.

I then found the IP address for the desktop and created a Direct IP game on it, and attempted to connect the laptop to said IP address, but alas, no dice.

Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong? Thanks in advance, all.

Let me know how it turns out

Oh, and I'd post in Civ4-Help next time if there's another problem - more of the techies tend ot hang out there...

Direct IP worked great! Thanks for your generous help, Snoop; we got a good couple of hours into an Epic game.
