Need GaySpy or not?

Do I need to have GaySpy Arcade installed for multiplayer to work? I hate GaySpy arcade so when the Civ4 installer prompted me to install it I said no. DO I need to go back and install GaySpy for multiplayer to work? It won't let me log in.

You do not need GS Arcade, and I'm sure that the CIV installer does not try to install Arcade as Arcade doesn't support the CIV lobby. Now the PTW/C3C installer did ask to install Arcade. You might be thinking about Xfire which is part of the patch installs for CIV, it is not required and right now is nothing more than a game oriented IM.

So why won't the damm thing let me log in?
I confirmed my gamespy account login and password on gamespy's website, but when I enter then in Civ4's Multiplayer Login screen, I get "The Login Attempt Failed"

Well that's a issue with the way GS and Take2 set up the lobby, CIV has it's own "Take2 namespace" on the GS servers. So your account that GS recognizes like doesn't exist insde the T2 namespace, use the CIV games "create account" function, use a slightly different name and a different email than you used for your arcade account and it should work fine.

It was done this way so that CIV players wouldn't compete with the entire GS database for player names, though it likely created more problems than it solved.
