I find this game rancid for play on a multiplayer lan. How can they make a game like DOOM 3 which runs at 32893289023 updates per second instantenously run smoothly yet Civ IV in quasi-real time is as choppy as hell. "WAITING FOR PLAYER ...."

After tweaking mine and with a few upgrades the following system runs it superbly:
Athlon 2400 on a Gigabyte board with sound disabled
1.5gb ram
256mb graphics
Separate soundcard - Audigy
WinXP SP2"Old age and skill will overcome youth and treachery. "

I'm saying the problem persists mainly within the multiplayer gameplay over a lan. I also do not see why they don't offer 'lower' graphic settings. For instance, I have a brand-new 2.4ghz PC with a 128mb video card. I purchased Windows2000 mainly to try with the game since my old XP installation wouldn't allow me to upgrade to SP2. Civ IV just doesn't seem convincing to me that it SHOULD use as much resources as it does from a programmer standpoint. Maybe they should release dedicated stand-alone servers for this game.-My Game Company -http://www.redshadegames.com

I mean Stand-Alone Dedicated server software. It seems like most of the game is going to be ram/memory (especially on low settings) so a dedicated server would make complete sense(Similar to Dedicated Servers for Never Winter Nights)-My Game Company -http://www.redshadegames.com
