What do the various difficulty level handicaps actually do in game terms in MP? I'm trying to find good settings to handicap myself (winning with difficutly on Monarch in SP) against my newbie friends.

This is a great question that I wish I had a better answer too. IIRC, it is mainly going to affect your cities - the happiness/healthiness bonus as well as - I believe - city maintenance costs. I've only played a few games with my noob friends but I've found that if everyone just plays on the level that they are used to playing the computer on, that it will be reasonable. We've had AIs in the games, who were set to Noble. Any AIs will probably benefit the more experienced player though, IMO .... so keep that in mind. I plan to be playing at least one such game this weekend. Hopefully others will be able to relate their experiences as well and we can get a clearer picture of this...Caelicola
