  • Multiplayer issues with the patch?

    I recently installed v1.09 and now I'm having a great deal of trouble playing online with Direct IP or GameSpy. Some of us are behind NAT routers, some aren't, but we all have ports forwarded and everything - yet a lot of the time, connections just don't work, at all. What's the deal?

      I am still getting stuck on "contacting host" or more often" Contacting Peer" when trying to join games in Gamespy. I can connect to games when I get their IP address, however on the first try.

      I also notice that the lobby crash still happens post-patch, although it takes longer to occur now.

        I'm having exactly the same issue. Pre patch I connected fine with a friend, after patch we can't make it work - hung up on "wating for host"

          What ports should be forwarded? Or where do I find the info for this?

            i havent had many probs... but i installed the patch before i went multiplayer.. hey its better than civ 3!

              We've had problems...

              The two diplogames we have running now, (Epic of Man, and Man's Epic Odyssey) have experienced problems with using the patch, and both games are not using v1.09.

              We have a few players in the US and Australia, so maybe international connections are an issue with this patch? We're not sure either.

              Supposedly they are making another patch, and hopefully this one will fix these problems.

                  1.52 is available now, and fixes and adds many things for MP.

                    1.52 makes it harder for me to connect

                    i'm annoyed that after fraxis advertised this as having a "working multiplayer" it doesnt work well at all.

                          ugh, wtf is wrong with these people? Two patches no fix? Its been 2 months and they still haven't figured it out?

                            1.52 works great with direct IP so far (couple of odd things happened in our games but probably not Civ)

                            But GameSpy is a no go zone.

                              It seems most likely(IMHO) that the changes we asked for in the MP interface have(in combination with the holiday rush) overloaded GS and that even though the 1.52 patch addressed many things very well the ability to chat in the lobby(and have the player list and buddy list and pm's) from a staging room have increased the communication with the GS servers, therefore, you have all the problems with connections to hosts and peers in when setting up games. While DirectIP works as advertised although it suffers from people that do not have the know how to properly configure firewalls and routers.

                              This is not a easy thing to pin down from a programmers perpective, as how do you say it's a code problem when the features do work and it is what we wanted, desperately. Or is it a GS server bandwidth problem? They likely gave us as much as before but now it may not be enough? I only thing I can say for sure is that the developers are aware of the situation and are looking at what they can to fix the problem.
