I'm trying to start up a diplogame on Friday nights (USA) at any time.
I'm picturing a world map with 7-9 tribes, we can either randomize or create specific resources.
I'd like to make sure everyone's game runs smoothly before we start to make sure there aren't any problems. Prospective players should understand that a game like this will be played once a week for about 4 hours (maybe more, maybe less) and the duration could be anywhere from eight months to a year depending on how fast the game moves along.
We don't have to play every week, obviously some issues will come up in a game covering such a long period of time so don't worry about that, the idea is to have fun and not necessarily the speed of the game.
For those of you who aren't sure what a diplogame is I'll give a small little explaination; its basically a game where conquest victory is not encouraged, the idea is to play in an epic game that is described and recorded through posts that can either be letters, newspapers, actual interactions between "characters" that live in your nation, and treaties and agreements. Players will discuss what is going on in the game on the forums and also use the forums to conduct diplomacy outside of the game. Generally speaking the entire Apolyton community will witness the game through our storylines and communications.
The idea in this game is to comport yourself as a true leader would, and to role-play different leaders/attitudes your civilization may encounter during its time on the planet.
In my mind this is what Civilization was meant to be, and I think if you give it a shot you'll find it fun and it may give you a different perspective on playing Civ altogether.
If anyone is interested or has any questions please respond here, thank you.
Peace.
