  • Direct IP Game Loses Connection After Every Turn

    Hi,

A friend and I have been having major problems getting direct IP games to maintain their connections. We both have port 2056 open on our routers and have both tried hosting. I usually try to host, and he can connect to me. We load a saved game, can talk, trade, etc. with each other in game (not just from the options screen), but then when we end the first turn after loading, I can check my cities and move around the map, but can't move any units. The message "Waiting to hear from XXXX." shows on the bottom of the screen for several minutes, and then he and I both get lost connection screens and are asked to wait for the other person. Also, usually, if we can make it to the second turn after loading the game (very rarely), then we can play for a long time (until it crashes me to the desktop, then we have to start over). Does anyone know what might cause this? Thanks for any help!

    Hi there,

I have the same problem now. We can not get into our saved MP game. We tried different save games but nothing worked. The firewall was turned off and we tried it via direp IP and Gamespy ... oh man, this sucks!

Same problem here ... Played during about 2 hours without any problem. Then, the connection has been lost and now, impossible to do more than one turn without losing connection.

      Very very annonying ...

Answer is quite simple: Files missing. For example- host starting a game with "realistic" time-sequence (provided by mod) whereas the other player's copy was missing the crucial mod-files.

I wish it was that simple, but neither me or the other player has any mods installed. We are playing out-of-the-box games. Thanks for your reply, though.

We don't have any mod installed and the problem occurs ... So that's not tied with mods.

Jep, no mods, just out of the box. Did you encounter your problems after loading a game or right from the start? We had this problems after loading a game - we had played for four hours the day before and wanted to continue. Now we stopped playing and are waiting for a patch. I don't want to start another game because I am afraid that all the work is useless after a few hours.

Yesterday I read an interview in a german computer magazine with Timothy McCracken who is the head of quality assurance at Firaxis. They asked him about the early release date and this is what he said (translated back to english):

"I would say this was a combined decision from Firaxis and Take 2. They recognized that the game could be delivered earlier without being anxious about bugs."

There is something on my mind right now: Timothy learn how to do your ****ing job!!!! This is game is unplayable over networks!!!

We were able to play for about two hours then he lost connection. We saved our game and reload it, but from this point, the game lost connection every turns ...

So, I think also it should be tied to the saved games ...

Yeah, same here with the saved games. We played for several hours and then saved. The next day when we tried to load the game, we lost the connection every turn.

The same is happening with my friend and I. We have tried over the internet, on the same LAN, different map setups, multiple different options, etc. We have played at least a dozen games (well, tried to play). They all start out fine, but then a few hours in it starts getting very laggy and then starts disconnecting us every turn.

Best idea so far is that as the game goes on the civs get more developed: more units, more complex cities, etc. and, particularly, when they mobilize for war this stresses the system in some way which makes the server disconnect us.

Please address this issue. It makes it impossible to finish any mulitplayer game we start.

Note: this is for Civ V. I just realized this forum may not be for that game?

This is the only forum I've found so far that is addressing the exact issue we are having in Civilization V.
