  • Lan game wont show up

    HI guys!
I am having problems getting a Lan game up and running.
I start the game on one computer
But the game fails to appear in the list of the second computer.
The firewall on both computers are disabled
I am runing through a router.

    Is it the router?

Most likely yes, I just use a hub on my LAN and I have no problems, you need to allow IP passthrough for atleast port 2056 on the router, or if this router is only internal and doesn't access the internet just DMZ or turn of the routers firewall completely.

OK I got frustrated so I broke out the ol'trusty Crossover cable and disconnected the router completely.
        It isnt the router.
The 2 civ4's refuse to see each other.

I can copy/move/delete files from each computer I can ping each computer
        Both firewall's are disabled
        there is no router

BUT the 2 civ4 games wont see one another.
One hosting One joining, the join shows NO games

I think ill just put this down to the lack of programming skill pertaining to networking on Civ's behalf RE: Civ3

I hope hotseat at least works' Havnt tried it yet

Are the both computers on the same subnet?

CIV must also have complete permission to access the network from any firewall(software) that you may be running, so if you have windowsXP firewall running CIV has to be on it's access list, in order for this to work, or as I do just turn off the firewall, as your routers firewall is protecting you anyway.

              Ok I admit it.
              And apologize to Firaxis
It wasnt their lack of multiplayer programming skills
Was my lack of networking skills

              It was McAfee firewall
It was still blocking Civ4 even tho I had disabled it!

              Thanks for help everyone!

PS NOTE TO MCAFEE: If i disable something McAfee, I mean I WANT it disabled! hehe
