  • Ridiculous Civ Action (Screenies)

At Paddy's request, I've decided to do something that I've never done before...

Do a turn by turn game thread with screenies!

I'll just be playing one turn at a time so that the posts will stay short, feedback on what to do next and so forth will be taken into consideration.

    Nation: Random
    Difficulty: Noble
AI: 8 Random AI, 9 total civs on map.
    Map: Fractal
    Size: Standard
    Climate: Cold
    Sealevel: Low
    Speed: Normal
    Barbs: Ragin'!
    All Victory conditions.

Let's see what the draw brings us:
    <img src=http://apolyton.net/upload/thumb.php?x=800&file=18365_America0000.JPG>

Well, it looks like we drew America, and Roosevelt, Industrious and Organized, Fishing and Agriculture.

    Fun Facts so far:
    1. My first game playing as Roosevelt
    2. My first game on a fractal map
    3. My first turn by turn story.

    Here is our start position:
    <img src=http://apolyton.net/upload/thumb.php?x=800&file=18365_Ameristart0000.JPG>

Looks pretty classy, I'm gonna be founding the city there because the rice and fish make it too good to pass up.

    <img src=http://apolyton.net/upload/thumb.php?x=800&file=18365_Metaliturtleton0000.JPG >
Begin working on a workboat to take advantage of those seaborne resources. Oooh cows to the west!

    <img src=http://apolyton.net/upload/thumb.php?x=800&file=18365_StevetheWarrior0000.JPG >
Moved Steve the Warrior one square Southeast (3 for you demogame types) He sees some clams and the piggies that we could already see. The tundra's telling me that west and north are the directions that we'll have the best growth, but Steve will continue to look for goodie huts.

Decided to research the wheel to hook up the rice asap. Animal Husbandry will probably come next as there's those cows in the fat cross.

Next build will be a worker then 2 warriors or warrior, archer if I have archery by then.

And that's the end of 4000 BC!

more after I finish my psych homework, if anyone knows a good Roosevelt strategy, please post it. I'll scour the strateejery forum later.

Industrious for Wonders, Organized for expansion. Not an easy leader, as he request decision for vertical/horizontal along begin and middle.
          Excellent food,good commerce,modest hammers.
May be try find a rich prodution site, try Oracle there.
Don't forget the leader is not Creative,so each city must work for its radius.
          Best regards,

              Here’s what I would do:

Wonders to aim for: Great Lighthouse and Colossus. This will be a game with costal cities. Roosevelt has only so-so traits, but Industrious will give you key wonders (and thus GPPs). Org isn’t necessary ‘till later. I really haven’t read any good reviews for Roosevelt.

A better site for hammers is needed, as your capital screams of commerce or GPP factory. Leave 2 or 4 of the forests as they will be your only source of hammers save one mine (and the cows?). Harvest some if they grow. If you want a GPP capital, farm the northern forest first for one extra commerce from the river. Spread farms from there for irrigation. (I recommend cottages tho)

Even with raging barbs it safe to leave the capital undefended for about 1000 years. If fractal map is what it sounds like (never played one), the barbs should be possible to keep away by posting sentry archers around later and remove FOW on the entire island. I would build a settler as soon as possible rather than warriors. Settler build isn’t harmed by the low hammer site capital. Move it one step at a time to the new site, or protect it with your sole warrior (replace if killed too soon).

You don’t need to hook up the rice yet, your health is more than ok for a while. However you need Wheel for Pottery so research is ok. Get your boat on the water sooner by switching from the unimproved rice to a grassland forest. The city will grow soon enough, and there aren’t any must-have tiles to work yet. Then settler then worker (with AH for cows) or let the city grow to size 3. Early expansion is key with the rather poor capital.

Religions: leave the early ones for those with Myst. I’d rather go for Conf with a Oracle sling to Civil Service.

              Anyway, just my to pence.

I won't intentionally do a slingshot but otherwise I like the comments so far. This game is more for entertainment than strategy purposes, so getting completely slaughtered is just as ok as winning. It sounds messed up I know, but then again, it's me!

I'm gonna play out the next turn now...

                  3960 BC

Steve the Warrior got hungry so he decided to go feasteth upon yon piggies. His travels lead him to a whole indiginous people who appear to do the same exact thing every day. Utopia? or a good source of booty, Steve will try his best to find out. The spices, hills, pigs and forests make the tundra hill look like a good city spot, it will be further evaluated in the next post.

It was decided among the Americans that they would prefer the production capabilities of the forest to the additional serving of rice... nobody really liked the rice all that much anyway. This makes the boat production go twice as fast, as the forest provides more wood than the rice paddies seemed to have been providing... Curious

                  President Roosevelt makes a decree:

All possible effort should be made in ensuring the safety and feasability of our next city site. I've put my best man, Steve the Warrior on the job, he's 'ready to go.'

This is the potential city site:

Ohhh-wee! If those villagers are friendly, Steve might experience a meal far better than the uncooked pigs he is currently eating. Pork chops, bacon, suckling pigs and clams all of it spiced like the custom was in the days 4000BC. I think you better tell your boy to leave the club at the village gate and have a seat by the chiefs table. And who knows, there might be good looking daughters at the feast too. And presents?

                      ..getting hungry myself..

                          3920 BC

Roosevelt sat in the palace in Metaliturtleton with high hopes. Already he was anticipating the completion of his work boat to exploit the riches of the sea. He looked upon Tigerfish Bay as the locals had started to call it with a beaming smile, his seaward future looked bright.

To the south, his faithful friend and warrior buddy from high school, Steve the warrior was preparing to make contact with an indiginous tribe. Roosevelt hoped they would teach Steve something useful, knowing full well that if the tribe were to turn out hostile that it would be the end of this land that had become known as America.

                          So what did Steve find?

The Villagers provided Steve with detailed charts of the immediate area, and more random ones of the area southwest of the next city site. Additionally, it was discovered that the new city site would also be able to exploit a lusterous metal known as silver! The natives also indicated that there were strange beasts in the ocean to the south, but Steve decided not to believe them. Still, at the last minute he decided to draw mythical swimming beasts on the map for the President.

Steve had also expanded his report about the next city site. If the location wasn't certain before, the silver surely would clinch it, he provided the President with a map of the next city site. He informed the President that the next move would be to investigate the silver site further and get the complete lay of the city site.

Metaliturtleton looks pretty much the same...
                          Growth in 9 turns.
                          Work boat in 14 turns.
The wheel will be researched in 6 turns.
City borders expand in 3 turns!

                          Current goals:
                          Complete work boat
                          Make a Settler
Have Steve explore a little more SE and then have him explore to the NW of Metaliturtleton.
Steve escorts Settler to new city site
Metaliturtleton makes another warrior for exploration
Metaliturtleton makes a warrior for defense

                          ...and the save!

Once again things are looking up for president Roosevelt, city production is as good as it can be, and Steve is about to chart the new city site completely, and he can finally look at that scrumptious fat cross.

Steve moved to the silver hills and discovered... MORE SILVER!! well, at least he knew one thing, the President would be very pleased.

next tech: either Mining to get silver,
AH for the delicious moocows to the west, or
Hunting-Archery, the barbs are ragin' and we don't have much in the way of defensible terrain, and all those silver hills seem to be telling me that there won't be copper hills nearby.

                              City
                              Growth in 8 turns
Game says that the work boat will be complete in 13 turns at 2 production per turn.

                              Math time
                              Currently workboat is 5/30
For next 8 turns there will be an additional 16 production (2 hammers per turn)
so at growth workboat will be 21/30
Production will then be 3 hammers per turn
so there will be 3 turns left at that time

So work boat in 11 turns!
                              Border expansion in 2 turns!
