Oh, and I'm amazed at the SMAC ignorance being shown here. If you have no creativity to bring to the Unit Workshop then of course the great range of options given will be lost on you.

As for a modified map...bah, I was going to post a screenshot of my modded terrain palette but all my screenies are of my PBEMs...

I´m sure that it was impossible to change the unit models, they were in a non standard format IIRC

Yes it´s bad but so far it could handle Rome TW, KoTOR2 and even Doom3 which I installed just to see if it would load, and it did at 5fps

It is slow sometimes, specially during the modern age, but I got used to it by now Oh and the maker is "Apollo"

Hopefully next year I´ll buy a new computer, this one has passed it´s expiration date long ago...

Heh, after the numerous problems just trying to get the thing to work, I AM sorely disappointed. The shoddiness the developers gave to this game is definately on the you know what list.

It almost seems like they wanted to just take the money and run as they got acquired. It seems pretty obvious to me. I don't know about anyone else.

As far as the development areas go, this seemed like an incredibly BASIC peice of software someone quickly made up. I mean comeon, I see MANY THIRD-PARTY software coming together to put this thing to work, and I paid how much for this thing?

If anyone here has any experience in POSER, this game basically is a formilization of it, even using the scripted language POSER is built on. In my opinion also, I agree this was a pretty sore disappointment.

If I could be arsed to dish out for a 6600GT or something like that I am sure I have far fewer problems. But I don't see why that piece of sloppy piece of teasing software crashes instead of being just very slow.

I don't see any problem with Firaxis using third party software. You are not expecting they write their own rendering engine, hm?

Unit workshop just sucks. I made a few units in SMAC, but really, most of the units you can make are useless. Better to add another good feature to the game, possibly a faction

i used to turn off all the default units and when i needs something i would create it

Anyhow, does anyone else get these messages like "Intro_TEXT_legal" at the beginning?

Their progress meter shows you the initial loading files as they load, so you don't sit there staring at a blank desktop as the game loads them. It's not a bug, it's not unfinished, it's the look they were going for before it launches the intro Take2 splash video.

Other games have done similar things; The Sims actually does exactly the same thing when loading but uses "funny" text instead of telling you what's really going on.

i have had the AI pop up and angrily demand AI_DIPLO_DEMAND_TRIBUTE_POWER_STRONGER_LOUIS_XIV_1

there have been others aswell but tbh they go teh same way as all the AIs idiot demands

I have a geforce three in one of my machines and it runs the game. I just turned down the graphics seetings to optimize the performance.

Just because it wont run "fantastically" on an outdated card doesn't make it a bad game.

to be fair a gf3 is antique
i use a gf 4 4400 ti and its well well below what is needed for a modern game, especially anything that requires reactions like a fps

its a shame that games dont allow you to switch off the majority of the bells and whistles,after all civ4 would run just fine with gfx like civ 3 had or even the type of 3d terrain SMAC had

it does pose the question , if you can run the game on a gf3 ok what exactly is civ 4s problem?
i see major game breaking slowdowns in this game
if its not the gfx whats up?

You can't please everyone. Honestly, that's his opinion and he's entitled to it. Personally, I think Civ 4 is the best game ever made and the depth and addictive gameplay makes my head spin.

Just the fact that so many people are so quick to zealously defend the game is a testament to how well the game is designed and its mass appeal.

The way I see it, it's his loss.
