couerdelion, scenarios always play at a difficulty which is between the difficulty they were created on the difficulty you set. So if the scenario was created on Noble difficulty, then Monarch will play closer to Prince (the main difference is that the AI's starting state is based on the creation difficulty, meaning no free archery, no free worker etc).
I should have set the difficulty to Immortal, probably.

As for happiness... a garrison warrior is only 15 hammers and takes 3 turns working +5h so it's not really a big deal to slip in with or without overflow. When whipping the worker, I whipped at size 4.0 so the city went to size 2 and stayed there for a few turns, I actually can't remember if I completed the warrior by overflow or by stalling and working the marble with one clam worker, but as you can see from my second screenshot I didn't work the clams all the time (you can also see the fogbusting warrior heading south).
I didn't really go into unhappiness at all, I just stalled by working the marble in favor of clams. The reason that I am in unhappiness in the screenshot is because I wanted to work the clams regardless to get writing a turn faster and time it with the Oracle. As a rule growing into unhappiness when you do have alternative mines to work is a bad idea.

In the case of 4-0-3 tiles it doesn't matter - because even with the happy penalty (-2f) the tile is still 2-0-3, no worse than a lake... but that just means that growing into unhappiness is neutral, there may be turn advantage by not doing so (working higher yielding tiles earlier).
Of course regardless, you want to be ready to grow the moment the whip timer shows "12 turns of anger" (it would be 11 turns but there's a bug where whip anger only lasts 9 turns and the last turn of anger fades before production is added for the turn, that means when it shows 11 turns the whip anger has in reality already faded and that -1 Happy does not in fact exist for that turn).

I didn't realize our first DAR was only supposed to go to around 1520 BC. Let's see if I can backtrack.

I'm not very experienced with naval warfare, so I decided to go with a Prince game. Since I wanted to play around with the navies some, I decided to go with Epic speed.

I settled in place for the additional hammer and built two workboats, followed by a worker. The scout quickly learned we were alone on a mid-size continent. Wanting to keep the barbs at bay I used the starting scout and a warrior to keep all fog off my landmass. Amazingly enough, I never saw a single barb on our land, not even an animal.

I placed my second city in our southwestern area of the continent. I situated her so that she would control both the cows and the fish. She'll be specialized in production.

You don't have to worry about the spoiler tags; only people who are past this point should be reading in this thread

I wanted to use the spoiler tags on the 'by turn part' of my post, so that it didn't take up such a large area.

            Monarch - Normal

High-level plan is to get Berserkers and go, er, beserk. Techs needed are CS and Machinery and since the CS sling is much more unlikely in 2.08, I'll use that Marble for a CoL grab. Initially, our military will be minimal: just enough to clear the fog to render barb atacks impossible.

            First things first: wokboat pronto.

As happy is going to be limited, I prioritze gold (for extra research) and hammers for the second WB:

The scout and warrior clear the fog for the settler to move to his target in safety.

By now we've got our little island fully fog-busted, so we can go for the Oracle in peace...

            Hello, Alex!

Don't know whence he came, but his trireme is heading north, so I guess he's somewhere down south.

            Job done:

Here's a look at our world while I'm revolting to adopt Confucianism. I plan to settle on the gems, and maybe even as my next city, as we need the happy and I'd hope to work the others later. Without copper, I'll be need some military techs so AH and IW are on the menu. Alex's fate seems dependent on his choice fo religion: if he snags his own, he dies. If he takes mine, he can become a powerful ally...

              Methos,
              excuse my silly question:
how can you get such a log?
Did you write it by hand?
Are you using a mod to have it automatically
or is a configuration option I missed?

Not a silly question at all. On CFC I'm a Staff Member for the Hall of Fame. In order to keep players "honest" we use what we refer to as the HoF Mod, which is required for all HoF submissions. We have included in the mod several additional smaller mods that players can turn on or off at their discretion. One of those smaller mods is the Autologger which you see in my post above.

The autologger creates a text file which tracks a majority of the events throughout the game. You can also hit Alt-E in-game and add a custom log event as you see I've done at the begining of the game. The text file can be named to anything you like, or you can set the mod to name the text file as whatever you have the game named as (i.e. your leader name).

If you're curious here are a few links you may find interesting. I hope Poly doesn't mind me promoting CFC's HoF.

                FAQ: Welcome to the HoF!
                HoF Tables

BTW, all features of the mod can be adjusted within the Options menu. Also, the mod notifies you if any setting is set so that the game would not be accepted as a valid HoF submission.

My apologies for the thread jack, but if anyone has any questions on the HoF Mod, feel free to PM me.
