  • A simple queston about quests in "Beyond the sword"

I have a simple thing to ask:
Does the quest rewards are valid for future cities/buildings/untis or they work only for the already build?
For example - one of the quest gives +2 research per library. If a new library is build after the quest is finished will it receive the bonus too?

I have only seen an "x" number that needs to be built

so my guess is anything over that number is NO

I am new to BtS, and wondered about this too. I was given this quest and didn't even have enough cities to build the number of libraries they wanted.

I'm pretty sure the library quest +2 research option is to ONE library, not all.

Anyway the X ones depend upon the quest; some quests apply the bonus to future buildings in addition to the current ones and others don't.

Yeah, the quest requirements aren't balanced at all IMO. I play on Huge maps with 12 civs so I need 13 for everything. Trying to create 13 cities alone can be a challenge, never mind adding a particular building to each one. Which most of them don't need anyway. It's because of that I disabled all the quests from my game, along with the barbarian uprisings.

I don't believe that there many players that look at the quests part. I always go my own way never looked at the quests thing. As far I can see they almost imposible to achieve.

If the quest reward is "all ...," then all would get. But most apply to one with a desirable result or to many with a lesser result, or give you several of something. "Build x number of stablews gets you X number of the latest horseman. In my case 9 stables got 6 knights, no promotions. At war at the time; very useful. The many forges got one forge with 2 additional hammers. Mixed bag.

When the reward is every mounted unit gets the flanking promotion, current and new. Yes they can be worth it.
The ones that start a golden age. very worth it.
The one where all muskets get pinch, current and new, worth it.

It depends on the quest. but yes, i ignore most of them.
The early ones that can give you a free specialist, can be worth it also.

I try to do most of them, but many are just impossible. 11 chariots before the classical age? yeh right. 11 harbors in an empire with 9 cities, also not gonna happen when only 4 of them are coastal.

But generally the rewards can be great, even the mediocre ones can prove to be most helpful. One of my favorites is the build 11 castles, all melee units gain CG1.

I wish the quests were like... "build a library in every city" vs build 5 more libraries than you have cities

I rarely worry about it because I seldom build more than 5 cities in the early eras, so the building-related quests make no sense. I do like the free promotion/free unit quests, but it's got to fit with my tech path/strat for that game. I won't go very far out of my way for them.

It will say in the quest whether it is for one building or many. Same for unit bonuses (All Sword get shock for eg.)

And Quests are not impossible by longshot. I usually complete all quests if level is lower than Emperor. Only Holy Mountain is impossible if it comes when its already claime
