  • The Great Libray of Apolytonia

It's been discussed briefy before, but a standard repository for all knowledge and wisdom, maintained by the AU, would be excellent.

If someone spots a useful / interesting thread or post, it could be submitted for review and possible inclusion. The format of the Tome is up for discussion, but meanwhile we could post links here.

    I'll start with this :

Hmmm... interesting thought... a "guided" effort at Must Reads.

Ummm, it would prolly help to have an outline of desired topics, methinks. I can start one, but it'll be slower coming than from some other people (as in, those that have actually played ).

It might help if you posted more often too, banana-waver.

Yah, well, RL got in the way for a while... I also figured that the OBSESSION would soon return, so taking a bit of a break was not such a bad idea.

            Tough crowd. Sheesh.

I think there aren't many great library threads atm, apart from those posted by beta testers like the religion thread.

                    Just a humble suggestion:
Why don't you edit these into your first post mr Cort, and group and subgroup them together something like:

                    *Strategy
                    -early game
                    -mid game
                    -end game

                    *Game consepts
                    -civics
                    -units
                    -traits/leaders
                    -wonders
                    -buildings

                    *Victory conditions
                    -culture
                    -domination

This could then be an useful handbook while gaming, and an addition to the reference guide and the Civilopedia.

BTW: some of these threads are rather long and the good stuff is hidden between lots of off topic posts.
There should be links to threads that are somewhat condensed in the first page(s).

Vel's Strat Thread is nearing closeable size. When it reaches that point, my plan, as I did for Civ 3, will be to summarize everything discussed and concluded in my thread, as well as cherry picking from the best of the best in other threads, and present a single, lead-in post for Vel's Strat Thread, 2 That should help with wading thru the OT muck...

                        Hi Caligula,

This is a bit of an ad hoc thread at the moment for collecting links on. A structure such as the one you suggested is hopefully how it will end up, but it is early days at the moment, and from what the betas are saying, and from what many are finding, there is more strategic depth and variety in this incarnation, and many things are very much up for discussion. Even with Civ 3 some of the best articles and threads were posted when the game had been around for quite a while. A few weeks after release, most of us are still in our Civ 4 infancy, while betas with maybe a years exposure are saying they're still learning stuff about the game.

As time goes by, and more material is out there and collected, this thread will hopefully take the shape of something definitive. Meanwhile it's more of a scratch-pad for the time being.

Reading back my own post I can see it's a bit premature, yes.
I guess my own traits would be Organised an Expansive, so I tend to jump the gun at times...

I will shut up now, and let the Great Scientists create this Academy. I'll post back later if I find some silver ores.
