  • Strategy Question

Hello folks. Its been a few years since I've been on. Since I was here last I was able to get a Master's degree and a new job. So, at least I got something for my lack of civilization time recently.

My question is this - I remember a strategy approach in civ4 that involved a specific approach to building a science city, a financial city, a military city and going for great leaders to build super specialists in these cities. I remember there was a great thread regarding the strategy steps involved in this.

Can anyone help me find that thread? I can't even remember what this strategy was called. I want to start up a game of Civ4 BTS and get my Civ4 time in now before CiV hits!!!

I don't know about the thread, but it's the prevailing strategy among top level players. You're better off building barracks in half of your cities and having them continually produce units, while other cities focus on building your economy, instead of building cookie cutter cities across the empire.
    John Brown did nothing wrong.

Yeah, I found *some* information about running a Specialist Economy versus a Cottage Economy (i recall the terms now), but there was a REALLY good thread about this on Apolyton, not CivFanatics -- but I still can't find that thread.

Seems like modified approach is required - running a completely STRICT SE approach doesn't work well in many situations.

I remember the thread, and think that stuff was used as a partial basis for Vel's Strat Guide. That should still be downloadable somewhere...

          That's because you're a bot.

That Shogun lady looks suspicious too.

That must mean you're a bot too. After rah outed himself, I shouldn't be surprised.

Rah's a bot, not a brother? Seems Theben is going around the bend at last.

Yeah... that post surprised me as well. I was going to ask him about that, but simply forgot to. Thanks for the reminder.

There's a thread somewhere that was talking about garden tools and I had that link to add to it as a joke, but I guess in my desire to get out of town on vacation, I inserted it in the wrong place. (it wouldn't be the first time ) But a week later I have no memory on where I really wanted to put it. See getting old sucks.

Rereading that paragraph, I know I'm going to take a lot of abuse for it.

I think replacing the 'Just another peon' tag with 'Gardening Spambot' would be an appropriate measure.

Also, I'm glad to see the 'ole game of give and take is still going on with Ming and rah!
