are city raider promos calculated from your current str or the defenders current str? i just assumed it was calculated from the attackers current str for example:
    macemen 8 against a pikemen 6
macemen has 20% str and 10% CR which if i do this correctly is: 20% of 8= 1.6 then 10% of 8= .8 and 50% (against melee) is another 4 so 8+1.6+.8+4=14.4 right?
and lets say the pikemen has 30% str and 25% fortify bonus so
    30% of 6=1.8 and 25% of 6= 1.5 so 6+1.8+1.5=9.3 right?
so it would be 14.4 against 9.3 right?
    correct me if im wrong.

I'd just like to point out that the trebuchet (bucket) has a natural city-attack bonus of 100%.

Therefore, if the above proposition were true, the bucket would always be stronger than anything it faced in the city.

That just don't seem right a'tall.

I believe it's something like this:
        combat str = Current str * (1 + Combat promos) * (1 + if(my modifiers - opponents modifiers > 0, my modifiers - opponents modifiers, 0))

If the combat promos feed directly into strength that would make them much more powerful in the long run.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

They do, and they are, but perhaps not as much as you're thinking. Do the math and run a bunch of examples.

well i did alot of fighting in vanilla and in vanilla when you started the actual fighting it would zoom in and show the odds there too and in detail. all strengths promos are calculated from current strengths (meaning if that units injured the bonuses wont be as much as compared to fully healthy unit). all promos are not concurrent they all are based on the base strength of the unit, you just add all bonuses to the base to get the final strength. so yes some of your early units if they are lvl 5 or above with some good promos will become very strong modern units but vice versa too for like bowmen, if you start out with 8 or 10 exp with each unit then you can easily have a unit with city garrison 3, thats a 75% bonus! so that very strong unit from before now has to face a defensive unit with at least 75% bonus of its own plus any inherent or others. expect to build alot and lose alot, its also very hard to keep a high level unit ALL THE TIME too, eventually they will lose, which is why i dont like making one a warlord, only for healing, after that they are becoming instructors or building academys.
