Please stop using pre-republic. THERE IS NO REPUBLIC IN CIV IV. I keep having flashbacks to CIV II every time someone uses that term. People my age have enough problems.

HR provides happiness with troops, repub 3 happy ea to the top five cities. So no need for troops to dash from city to city related to happiness after that's adopted. Can't help the fact that we are growing old while playing with electronic toy soldiers. Dodder on with the rest of us, lad, and we'll see you through.

representation is the republics way, lol. notice they call you a "minister" when your city celebrates? universal suffrage is like democracy, police state is like communism, rep is like republic, here. rule is monarchy

"is like" is the operative phrase. That is never mentioned in any of the documentation. (of course it's not like that's always right)
SO I still consider those II terms, not IV

Not quite. The best thing about this games civic settup is there is no pigeon-holeing into a "republic". Genoa's republic would be quite a different civic setup than todays US or GB republic's civic choices. Whereas WW2 Germany and Stalin's Russia could have had near identical civic choices.

In fact i challange you all to pick a historical government and attempt to pick the civ choises in CIV terms that best reflects it. Discuss!

well i can do the "democracy" one easily:

                  universal suffrage
                  free speech
                  emancipation
                  free market
                  free religion

"communism" is a bit tricky but id do it as follows:

                  police state
                  nationhood
                  serfdom or caste
                  state property
                  org or theo

                  "republic"

                  rep
                  bureaucracy
                  caste
                  merc or free
                  org or theo or pac

                  "monarchy"

                  here. rule
                  vassalage
                  slavery
usually decentralization but can be merc of free
                  pagan or org or theo

                  as always just my opinion!

I'd associate monarchy with serfdom rather than slavery. YMMV.
Participating in my threads is mandatory. Those who do not do so will be forced, in their next game, to play a power directly between Catherine and Montezuma.
