  • Number of turns to build settlers.

    Hi.

I just started playing Civ4 (I bought the Complete edition and I'm playing Beyond the Sword), and I have a quick question.

I have 3 hammers in my first little town, and it says that settlers take 100 hammers. Yet it takes only 10 turns to finish the settler.

    What's that about?

    Thanks.

P.S. I'm playing on Prince difficulty, if that matters.

When building a settler or worker, your city stops growing. All extra food that would normally be used to increase the city size is converted to hammers for building the worker or settler giving you more hammers than just the squares your are working.

Also IMP leaders build settlers faster by doubling the hammers for them. Again, hover over the production hammers with your pointer and an explanation is revealed for the additional production that enables faster delivery.
