  • Best. Random Event. Ever.

"Our computer game designers have developed a new game of Civilization. This game has the potential to increase the happiness in our cities..."

I laughed like a maniac the first time I saw that. Now, when I see it in my games, it gives me the feeling that I have arrived.

I really don't feel all that bad when a rival civ develops civ.
Any man can be a Father, but it takes someone special to be a BEAST

I was just about to point out that Horsie is simply making excuses in advance for why he will suck at Civ III...

It should be +1 happiness and -2 hammers to reflect the loss of productivity.

I don't think I've ever actually seen that random event.

You'll definitly feel the winds of change by the time games can determine how to make fun of themselves. A pre-programmed event prognosticates a strange new world.

maybe it should also be +1 gold as well as happiness to reflect how much we all spent on the game.

Maybe the third civ to have its developers make a new version of Civilization doesn't actually get the happiness that was expected. This to reflect that Civ3 wasn't all that.

And the fourth civ to get it has it's population increases eliminated since the men are spending so much less time with their wives.

Most of us guilty as charged. I like the population comment.

Actually I have the best scam.
My computer desk is in our family room with the 55" HD TV, right behind the luxury recliner I bought for her birthday. I can sit there and play civ all night. All I have to do is occasional turn around and make an inane comment about the show she's watching and she seems to consider it quality together time.
She'll make comments that I barely hear and i'll either agree or laugh. Communication at it's best.

20+ years of marital experience means you don't actually have to engage the brain in those situations.

Of course, she's probably fully aware and laughs about it with the girls behind your back.

And I'm thinking, yeah, but rah is cool with that...

Yeah, any fun that she can have at my expense is not a problem.
But I actually think that we're communicating more than we believe we are.
I do actually know who McDreamy is.

Mine watches design shows and reads her own computer, smost comments are just noise. She precedes any attention requiring comments with "Honey," so we can discuss dinner or phonecalls or whatever. Works like a charm. Most of her friends know I go to another world and only come up for air when getting another soda or water or to use the restroom.
