And that's why I sometimes declare war on somebody so that they will move that SOD that is on my border into my territory. You get to kill it on your turf, remove their biggest threat, and not take the WW hit.

Noobish question about maintenance costs.

Funny, I thought the one advantage of playing Civ over any "real" war, was the lack of having to notify the widows and children. That sort of notification is really crushing duty. As to that effect in Civ, if you will, it is war weariness which increases with all battles outside your cultural zone AND all losses, wherever incurred. However, it is tracked and applied by opponent. If you eliminate an opponent, even with obsolescent tech and heavy losses, the associated war weariness disappears. Also, War weariness only increases during a war with that opponent, and dissipates in peacetime. If the opponent becomes a vassal, then the war weariness dissipates at an increased rate.No matter where you go, there you are. - Buckaroo Banzai
