Okay, now I am intrigued; although we stray from the OP. What "guaranteed international trade routes" are you referring to. Appears I missed something; I know we get a trade route, but 'international'? Anyway, in combination with CoL, the two techs do bring economic order. However, in human vs. human team games, I suspect most of the bloodletting will be over by the time Civil Service is available. ("Move on folks. Just mopping up the losing team here. No need to expose the children to this." )

SINZ said HUMAN TEAM VS AI TEAMS. Why you would play that type of game, except for instructional, is beyond me. In human team vs human team, you're right, the games are usually decided reasonably early.

When we play MP we do toss in a few AIs in case someone gets eliminated early and wants to rejoin, and to fill up the map when we don't have that many players.

That's a good idea but it can also be unbalancing to have AIs in with the human controlled civs. A smart human player can quickly slaughter nearby AI countries to get a jump on expansion.

With a few in, most will access to one if they like. Which can be interesting in itself if one has founded a religion and you've seen the shrine built notification. WHO can get there first.

Heck... with some of the people we play with, the AI is tougher to deal with then them

Friday and Saturday night games... We are on vacation later this week, so I'm not sure what this weekend looks like, but after that... You would be more than welcome. We accept most people with rare exceptions, even newbees. We do ask that you play reasonably quickly. We use the timer... and while everybody has their long turns, we hate when the same person keeps running the timer out turn after turn
