The most frustrating thing about playing team games is when you have a bad player on your team. We had a 3v3 going on and one guy only spoke french, constantly researched something different then the rest of us, and worse he had 3 horse but wouldn't trade them with the other team members who desperately needed more horses. It was very frustrating.

The easiest solution would to play no teams, then your only excuse is that you suck.
Yes, that is strange that he wouldn't trade the horses and not tech properly. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

The name of the game was "3v3 Teamer - No Noobs" (I wasn't host so don't blame me) but I could see how that would be a problem if you didn't speak English. Still, you'd think people would see that exploration and techs were different from an FFA and that maybe he'd figure out it was a team game even if he didn't speak English.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

I guess the obvious answer would be next time have the game name be
"3v3 Teamer - No Noobs, no Frenchies"
Yeah, it would be amazing if he didn't realize it was a team game, but the I guess the alternative was that he was the dumbest man in France. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Stingy and foolish. As to techs, I would think each member of the team would research differently and then trade back and forth. Trying to show yourself as smarter than the other team mambers is a natural (if foolish) tendency, but not trading cannot be justified once the resources are hooked up. Two or three of something doesn't confer any additional benefit. Some team games use permanent alliances from the start. In that case, what is his, is yours too.No matter where you go, there you are. - Buckaroo Banzai

Each person researching their own results in longer wait times to benefit from a single tech. 3 people can research 3 techs in 9 turns separately, or 1 tech in 3 turns together... and then do that twice more.I'm consitently stupid- Japher
I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

In team games, beakers are combined so there is no trading, since you all get the tech. So researching different then the rest of team is just dumb.
But, when you research a special tech, like mediation only one person founds the religion. I'm not sure how it determines which player that is though. I haven't played enough team games to see the pattern.

Now that I think about it, there's certain dumb merit in researching different techs. You research the techs longer, so more Civs have time to research them before you, meaning you get a discount for teching techs other Civs know already. Of course this doesn't apply for immediately beneficial techs like Currency.

For Buddhism it's all caps.
Normally there are only two teams and you're racing for Construction for cats and then elephants. The first team there usually has a great advantage. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

slnz did throw me off on "major techs" by naming Currency. I guess it could be "major" if it is post-Construction but pre-Machinery, which is a real "turnkey" tech, due to so many subsequent techs and one unit being dependent on Machinery completion. No matter where you go, there you are. - Buckaroo Banzai

Team games are all out war once cats are online. And earlier if a team member is close and vulnerable due to a lack of critical resources. But usually cats triggers the hostilities. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

I didn't mean it's necessarily a "major tech" in human vs human team games. In human vs AI team games (all the MP I ever play) it's huge though because of the big number of cities and guaranteed international trade routes. It's a lowercase L, not an uppercase I.
