  • Religion- Money bonus

I read in a walk through that having your own state religion and sending missionaries around in other cities can reap in a lot of money: one gold per city. My question is where does it indicate in the game that I am making the extra money through religion? I would like to be able to assess how much money I am making from religion but I don't know where to look for those indications? Any comments?

For you to get this gold you need to build a Shrine building in the Holy City - only a Great Prophet can do this. Before this spreading your religion doesn't net you any money. After you build it, you can see the income in the city screen.
    It's a lowercase L, not an uppercase I.

With Shrine the income is 1 gold per city with the shrine's religion per turn. No shrine, no money.

Thanks for your prompt replies and help. I will now set about getting a Great prophet. I didn't realize that a Great prophet was needed. Thanks.

OP: I have the proof of that right here:

I only spread Buddhism to 54% of the world (sending missionaries overseas is harder than it looks, especially when thier land is scattered throughout the map), and I'm already recieving 41/turn from this. Just imagine when I get up to 80% (about 60-70/turn)!

Not enough ocean squares to justify Moai Statues. There are other national wonders that would help more. Unless of course, you built them in other cities already.

Haha, that was my first thought too.

Found a corporation, that returns 4 gold per city it spreads to back to headquarters, so much better, only thing is each city it goes to costs money, depending on how many resources are used by the corporation, however if you spread it to AI's, costs them money while your headquarters pile up the gold.

So nice of the AI to pay for the privelege of giving you profit. The franchise system of capitalism.

If you have a holy city and spread it religiously (get it?), you can bank out much earlier before corps even come in the picture, better yet, having a holy city PLUS a corp in your wall street city will make you so rich, you don't really know what to do with the extra money. For the early game, if you want to really make money, you have to start a religion and spread it around. The more religions, the better. Before building those monasteries, you must at least invest on Organized Religion to spread those "free" missionaries. Once you get those monasteries built, it's open season on those rival cities. Just make sure you maintain enough of a postive realtioinship with them to get them to open thier borders to you.

Edit: You also would want to spread early and get them on your side by switching to your religion, so spread your first missionary on sending him to your first rival. If you are running in an isolated map, deisolate yourself ASAP.

I would think there would be others you could have built that would have provided more utility.

I try to make certain I'll have religion in all my cities before discovering a new religion. Since the 1st one I get is invariably in my 2nd city, I try to manipulate things so others pop up there, going so far as to delay building a new city for a few turns until I get the tech. Once I had 3 religious shrines in 1 city. Added Wall Street and built Wealth for max effect.

Building Wealth doesn't go through the +% -modifiers though (in BtS), just the hammer ones, so it doesn't benefit from WS. Looks cooler if you just want to max the -output number though

Ah, well, that's good to know. I may change some of my national wonder combos now.
