If you're running your civ's favorite civic, do you get something for that? For instance, if I'm playing as the Romans and running representation, is there some other benefit? Perhaps more beakers per specialist?

Favorite civics?

To the best of my knowledge... NO. However the favorite civic of other civs comes into play when it comes to their relationship to you. If you are playing against the romans, and you have rep as a civic, you get a plus modifier with them because you are using their favorite civic... making them more friendly to you.Keep on Civin'

No bonus for yourself. Also note that both you and the other party need to be using their favorite civic for you to get the diplo bonus.
If you're in a desperate need for extra diplo (say, a last leg of a planned diplomatic victory) you can use spies to switch them to their favorite civic if they're not using it and can't be bribed to change to it.It's a lowercase L, not an uppercase I.

They give the reward even if they are not in that civic, e.g., Pyramids permit representation long before the constitution tech is available. The Romans still rewarded me for being in their favorite civic. Maybe once they CAN go into that civic, slnz's rule would apply. Not a deep test, just an observation. No matter where you go, there you are. - Buckaroo Banzai

Yes, if anyone could verify that I would appreciate it. I didn't think the other civ had to be in it also. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Hmmm... using the magic of World Builder, I just tested it. Granted, a short test and it could be totally wrong, but I have to agree with sinz here. I started a fresh game and made sure the Romans were in it. I raced my scout to them so I could meet them before any religion or anything else could come into play. We started Cautious as usual. I then added constitution so I could adopt Rep. Played about 5 or so turns and saw no change in our relations plus no statement of a modifier. I then gave the Romans Consititution, and they adopted rep the next turn. At that point, I got a plus one modifier for civics.
I'd love to see what other people come up, but I'm thinking sinz is right.Keep on Civin'

Good to know. That would explain while some of those +s don't come till later in the game.
I guess I'll pay more attention to this. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

I bow to the great wisdom. As I said, I observed. In this case probably an incorrect observation. No matter where you go, there you are. - Buckaroo Banzai

But also remember, my test was VERY LIMITED. There may be exceptions. Maybe you did see it onceKeep on Civin'

Like when someone told me that you always start with fresh water, and while I thought that had happened before, it took me a month before I saw a start and was able to say AHHA, no fresh water here. Now I know for sure. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

IT was made as a generic statement, which sounded so logical that I had a tendency to just believe it.It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

It's one time I reset maps, if I start with no fresh water for the capitol. (The other is when the random civ is the same as one I played in any of the last three games.)No matter where you go, there you are. - Buckaroo Banzai

There are certain civs that I don't play but every now and then I do it.
Lack of fresh water isn't nec a restart for me. If the rest of land is good I'll go ahead.
I did have one game the other day that had so many FPs and few forests that I had health problems at size 3. Quite annoying but you see the future potential and just carry on.It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple
