Where exactly would that be? Not that I'd always be able to join, but perhaps this Friday is open, and I'd like to see what the long-time MPers do.

I completely forgot about thatOriginally posted by rah View PostMy only real problem with civ2 was the kill one in the stack, kill the whole stack thingie.
Yes, one elephant just killed 147 legions and 110 cannons.
But as much as I loved civ2, BTS is far better.
One thing I remember about civ2 was the WW79 scenario. Lots nukes flying around. what's not to like? Nukes in that game were pretty devastating.

Poll is hereby invalidated. I haven't installed the game yet, but a few minor comments spring immediately to mind:
Regarding my point #2, Heraclitus is a dirty dirty liar.
The game came with a tech poster with all the stuff on it. This is obviously far too complex for me
Further, it is clear that Blaupanzer understates things and would call a major natural disaster a "minor environmental incident".
Everyone else who voted yes is clearly in the employ of Take2 and/or Firaxis.
And this is the part of my fake rant where I would parody EoN but it's been far too long and I can't recall any good lines except for the one where "only morons and rookies alike use rah rules"
It does look a lot more complex, so I'm going to need to make some shortcuts like I did for civ2, like the old printout of Oedo Years. Any Oedo years in civ4? Presumably not. I suppose I shall find out some of the other detail differences once I get into the game. Last chance to warn me of any shockers I might encounter and thus earn my eternal gratitude*. An example would be rah's posting of no tech stealing when taking an enemy city.
*Eternal gratitude lasts as long as I remember it. 2 to 3 hours if you're lucky.

And it is very boring, Bethne. But now I know what cottages are for
Oh hey look, there's a manual on the dvd, that seems like it could be useful. Are the advisors in civ4 actually useful?Last edited by ColdWizard; August 8, 2009, 16:40.

1. Yes, if you can both spread them and make the appropriate shrine in the holy city. For the shrine you need a Great Prophet, which you can get with Great Prophet points, which you get by working Priest specialists in cities and certain wonders. Also good for getting Happy bonuses from Free Religion, or when in pursuit of a Cultural victory.
2. That's just his modus operandi.
3. Yes, for international trade routes. Especially in the late game trade routes are a big source of income. Also needed for actually travelling through foreign lands...
4. Yes in most cases. Run the science slider higher in the left upper corner, or expand more either through settling or conquest. It's a lowercase L, not an uppercase I.

Figure out other ways to fuel your economy besides just shrines. In MP games there will be games where you don't get to found a religion. You must be flexible in MP or you will have some bad nights. (you'll have some bad nights anyway) Like those nights where you start in the middle of the land mass packed in by creative civs. Or you start as tok and there's no iron. We play random civs so you can't get to comfortable with just a single stratagy since it may not work with the civ and the land you get. It does keep people from getting into a rut. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Learn to use specialists to boost science, also republic boosts science (with specialists) and mercantilism provides free specialists. Amazing what I've learned here...
Rule 37: "There is no 'overkill'. There is only 'open fire' and 'I need to reload'."
